I have a 2017 ST 765 RS in Malaysia. In early 2024, whilst I was seeking medical treatment, I did not ride it for a month or more. In March 2024, I tried to start it but the screen was dead. I eventually managed to remove the battery (positive terminal bolt and captive nut were seized), charge it and try again, with no change. I fitted a new battery but to no avail. On 16th May, I gave up and had it taken to the nearest Triumph dealer. On 29th May they advised that the bike was running but that "this issue will be happen again if you did not change the instrument meter".
They were right; I managed to drive it 14km before it gave problems! I pulled into an emegency lay-by and the engine died. The dash lit up intermittently but I could not start the bike; it died completely and I had to get it trucked to a trusted repairer, closer to my home. This was on Penang first bridge, not the best place to breakdown.
Clearly, there is an inherent problem with this component and, since Triumph have replaced some free outside of the warranty period, they should do the same for everyone. I will write to Triumph and seek redress but I don't hold out much hope.
If you are in UK, can I suggest that you write to all the bike magazines about the problem and ask them to seek answers to just how many failures of this component have occured and how many have been replaced free, both under warranty and outside the warranty.
