I need to do this, and it just so happens I already have one of those thermoses that I never use.

chrome cups

I tried making replacements a couple of years ago and sold a few sets. I had to make an alluminium buck, then have them vacuum moulded. Next they were vacuum coated in chrome in the same way plastic models have the chrome applied. Then they have to be painted in 2 pack clear laquer and finally sloted and holed. Shame I didn't think of a thermos flask first!

Nice solution Huston. Do you have two on the tach side? Where did you pick those ones up?
I actually haven't done the tach side yet, but it'll take two washers for that side too.
I found them at Lowes in the plumbing section. I was looking around for some rubber pads or something to cut out some gaskets to fill the gap and stumbled upon the sink strainer washers. I went to the tool section and "borrowed " a tape measure, went back and measured them to find they were just about the perfect size.

For those that are interested in doing this mod but have been unable to find the cups...

I called Thermos customer support last friday at 1-800-831-9242 and ordered two replacement cups for model DF2212. Three days later they are in my mailbox at a total of $9.50 delivered.
Thermos USA won't ship to Canada and Thermos Canada does not recognize the model DF2212. Is there another model name or number on the thermos body?

Thanks,
Rick

Rick,

Not sure about any other numbers as mine came in a brown envelope from Thermos with no paperwork what so ever. Do you have any mates living in the states that you could have order them for you?

For anyone else planning this mod and using the rounded-base Thermos cups which are just a little shorter than the stock cups, a couple of kitchen sink strainer washers fit perfectly to fill the resulting gap.

Great tip Houston. Just did this and worked perfect for both sides in a snap. No need to have to modify the gauges either. I wish I would have read this first before I made my pods (I wouldn't have had to put a couple of extra notches in them) but all is good :D
