What's your thoughts on handguards?

Hi All..looking for some collective wisdom.

I have the BMW handguards and heated grips on my BMW and am thinking I really like wearing the lighter weight gloves that this allows me. So much so that I want to do something similar to the T100 as I think it would broaden my use of the Bonnie as it gets left behind when things are a bit chilly and Spring here in the Pacific NW this year has meant it is just still winter here at mid May.

I've read people have used/adapted Tiger handguards and there are threads where people have discussed other options that look interesting.

I'm curious...has anyone ever used the Touratech handguards.

I think I could get them in a 1 inch clamp to fit the bars on my T100. I kind of like the spoiler effect they would have.

Appreciate any and all feedback...yes heated grips are coming too but wind chill on my hands always gets me since I have had frostbite from my mountain climbing ....frostbite is known to make ones hands more sensitive to cold after having it.
Thanks
FF

Forchetto,

I have Napolean Bar End mirrors on my 2007 Bonnie. Will my Napolean Bar End mirrors cause fitment issues with the Barkbusters?

'Your thoughts?

EDIT: damn...checked out their website and doesnt look like it will fit :-(

I'd go with the barkbuster ones - they make a newer line which has just the one clamp on the handlebar - made for cruisers. (same one forchetto shows).

Another nice thing - when you get caught in the rain, without your waterproof gloves, they are awesome.

As you mention, in the winter it's a big difference at highway speeds.

I have handguards fitted to my XT Yamaha and I love them. They make a whole season's worth of difference to how my hands feel. As others have said, summer gloves right through spring and autumn is great. The Bonnie is the 'cold hands' bike. These are the light plastic type that fit round the lever perch, not the solid alloy barkbuster things. On a trailbike (or a Scram) handguards look right, but I think they look totally wrong on a roadbike. I have a friend with barkbusters on his T100 and I think they look out of place. Just my €0.02.

Hey guys, I just bought a set of Trackside Brush Deflectors from Cycle Gear (http://www.cyclegear.com/eng/product/brush_deflectors/web1007432).

They are on sale for $19.99 from $29.99. That price is for a set of two with plastic mounting kit included. I mounted them on my 2010 Bonnie EFI without having to do any modifications. The mounts went around the control cables just fine. I did have to loosen the mirror clamps and push them closer to the grips, but that's all that it took to get the guard mounts on the bars. There were no clearance problems between the mounts and the top of the tank, either. I'm using these guards with knock-off Pazzo levers and they work just fine. They do a good job of blocking the wind from my hands and keeping them from freezing numb during my winter commutes. I think it's a worthwhile alternative to look into if you're wanting some cheap guards to use during winter times.
