Hi, I recently contacted LoneLec about all the changes to do with Tune ECU. I'm sure many of you know this already, though I've been out of the TriumphRat loop for a long time but did know there were changes a while back but wasn't sure exactly. So now that I need to balance my fake carbs lol I was wondering if anyone had an old Windows download for the Tune ECU?

I'm Gona post my message to Lonelec and their answer just for anyone else who may be needing answers, as I searched and didn't find my definitive answer. Their answer is first followed by my email to them as copied and pasted from my email. In the meantime if anyone can help with an old windows version I would greatly appreciate it. Many thanks!

Hi Ashley,

You can use the same hardware with the Android app. But, yes, you do have to pay for the software now to use Tuneecu. Please see their website.

That said, the original free Windows version of the software is floating around on the internet. But the new Android version is more comprehensive. But it is not provided with any support. So it’s your choice.

If you need any more advice, just ask.

Kind regards

Martin

Hi, I bought a Tune ECU map and the software years ago along with the Lonelec cable that was compatible with windows laptops. I understand now that that isn't available as such now. Are there any old versions for download as I changed laptops and it didn't transfer. I also understand that this is not updated anymore and basically almost obsolete. Or do I now have to buy a new cable and/or adaptor, Bluetooth or otherwise and does the purchasing before a certain date, I read somewhere, include those purchases for the pre android era apply for life? I just want to know how I go about now having to change things to connect to my 2010 Triumph Bonneville, what bits and pieces do I need exactly if I can't get an old windows version and do I have to pay again for the app/software? Many thanks in advance
Ashley

The old version is not supported any more. You should not only need a windows laptop, it should be running a pretty old version of windows. Not many chances to make it work safely if your PC is running Windows 10 or 11.

That's why it is so hard to find... because it is mostly unuseful and no one cares to keep it available.

But even if you find.. is it worth the time and risk to save the €25 of the android license???

I had read somewhere, maybe on here, that people were able to use the old version with windows. I'm almost sure it was windows 10 the last time I used it, I just replaced laptops. I had got it all to install a TTP Tune but rarely used it again. I just thought if an old version would work just to balance the 'carbs' before buying as I wouldn't use it for anything else, well, unless a problem presents itself.
I'll do a search for the version 2.5.8 on the R3 owners site and see if I can find a download. Thanks to all for your help and advice. I'll update whether it works or not. Thanks guys!

The old version works great and was designed for our bikes - free open source.

That's a joke so you're paying and no support............
There is support. You can directly ask developer if something related to bad function, and some users in the official forum in close contact with him.

Either way... someone spending time developing an app that makes you save hundreds as not having to go to pro workshop for every electronic related operation do not deserve to receive compensation and should do all that work for free?

I got a download of 2.5.8 from the R3 owners site. It's downloaded on the laptop but haven't had the chance to go find the cable and try it out. I live in a flat on a busy touristy street and the bikes are parked in an underground garage 2 streets away, which I realise presented another problem. My laptop only runs off mains as the battery is toasty and there are no sockets in the parking garage but I'll figure it out over the weekend maybe and let u all know if it works or not

From my memory TuneECU was set-up as a free open source software available to all, this was at a time when all the Triumph tunes were open source and modifiable by anyone. If anyone wanted to donate funds to assist this work they were able to but at the time it was run under the (right on) principle of free to all and sold itself on this I'm sure I remember it's front page promoting this ideal.

Fair play when they moved over to Android that was a big change and was developed for the new water cooled models when charging started to move into the picture, which I don't really have an issue with but I do have an issue that you can no longer access any of the Triumph maps which TuneECU never had to pay a penny for or did any work on and were always available free of charge. The only way to access these now is to use the Android pay for version.

Anyway, I love the old version and it's very sound software and will go on for years to come I have a LapTop which is dedicated to TuneECU and also have a few Triumph maps saved.

I think you are confusing a few terms and facts.

While I not knowing the software from start, I have never found any information as the software ever have been Open Source. If it would have, the source would still be available in repositories. And very strange no one to keep it active.

It could have been free. But that is not the same as open source.

Regarding maps, those are still public available. Here: Map_Database and through the app, even not registered.

Important fact is someone has to pay for the server where those maps are uploaded. Who? the developer, obviously.

You can pay, or try to keep using the old windows version. But whatever option you use there is only one person you owe that chance.

Maybe I am so aware because I work as a software developer, but always amaze me how people perfectly understand we should pay for art, pay our lawyer, give a tip a waiter even if already payed by restaurant owner... but software developers and book writers are expected to work free.

The Android version was released orginally via Google and you paid once unlimited for life. Then developer decided to restrict it to a fixed number of bikes and left Google store. It was not easy to get credit for orginal purchase but I did.
Then developer then decided to charge every year and simply ignores those that already purchased before this.
And there is no support.

The developer is making a very good software. He started making it as a personal project, and then people was asking for more models, and more features, and more, more, more, more.

And the developer having to spend more and more time and knowledge not for him own benefit... but all those guys using it?

If you go to the dealer just for ask them to reset your service counter, ONLY THIS, they will usually charge you one hour labour, unless you are a frequent customer (meaning you pay them a lot of money).

You save hundreds of dollars doing bike stuff.

But paying the guy who makes that possible money equivalent to only HALF AN HOUR of workshop labour is too much for you?

So you live absorbing aliment from the air? You are not paid for your job?? Maybe usually when you do some job to someone and he pais once you usually consider you will have to work for him/she forever, fixing any additional problem, doing changes... for years and years only because whoever paid once??

We should thanks this guy for charging money. The alternative would be he getting bored to work for a bunch of lazy owners who want to save all the money not payed to the dealers to themselves. And saying "I am off of this... have to spend time on pay my bills, no you save yours - if you want to fix your bike pay the dealer or go and lear programming yourself".

If it were on people like you all this is what we would be getting - NOTHING.

AH, and of course there is full support. Here: Log into Facebook and here: https://tuneecu.boards.net/

I had a couple doubts, asked, and got answer.

And... I am one of those lucky guys who payed life license and I am not forgotten not abandoned nor anything - everything keeps working as always, including support.

I understand people wanting to save all the money they can. But not understable you to consider something so valuable and useful should be free forever, nor lying about the true service we, people who accept the fact a good software should not be free, do receive.

My Dear Jesus,

You are a software developer who understands all these things, whereas I'm just a complete simpleton who understands nothing at all, only truth and reality.....

If you wish me to enlighten you on any other areas please do let me know and I'll be more than happy to help you out.....

Best,
I guess your truth and reality includes you earning money for your professional knowledge, don't you? The developer of TuneECU is also a professional.

You can ask me whatever I know regarding motorcycles, and I would be glad if you could help me in whatever doubt. But we are not workshop professionals nor earn our money in such questions. If so... would not be fair to expect you or me to work free, don't you agree?

But... is there anything you do not understand or need regarding the maps?

Either way, if having, you can go to any of those URLs I placed and ask. Usually no one asks about your TuneECU license for general questions.

Just an update which I meant to post sooner, sorry I know how annoying it is when a thread goes dead without an update, so the old version still worked on my windows 10 laptop. I did download the D2XX drivers as recommended above before even trying coz I had to use an extension lead from the flats I work at coz there's no plug at mine downstairs or in my parking garage. Didn't get to study it all too much before the daughter of the president of the building, a thing here in Spain, came at me complaining about me using it. I mean it was the guts of 5 minutes I had been using it and she was slowing me down by trying to start an argument. Puta! 😆 She ended up getting her dad out, then I told them to go talk to my boss he okied it. She complained to him the door was opened n strangers could get in, even though I was right there at the door FFS 🤬 anyway, you get the point. So, if I should really need it again I reckon I'll just go ahead and buy the android version to save crossing her grumpy ass path again but I did get to check the balance of the 'carbs' n they were fine. So there u go, the old version still worked for me, Spanish bitch trog from hell just spoiled it all lol thanks for all the help on this post n I hope it helps someone else. Ride safe folks n keep her lit!!
