Are there any folks touring on their 765? Solo or two-up. I am selling an FJ09 but still want to be able to some touring. Are you touring on your 765? How is it working? What does your setup look like?

The rear seat on my 765 is not much better than my tuono rear seat. After a moderate to long trip, I’m thinking that it may need to be surgically removed. Not the ideal bike for 2up touring I would argue. Not even the best bike for solo cross country touring but I wouldn’t hesitate to do it solo and add saddlebags (SW Motech blaze 40 Litres) to my Kriega 30 Litres rear seat set up. Many options discussed on this forum to add luggage. I have only done multiple 500 km day trips (tiring but fun). Many I know have done much more.

My wife can manage perhaps 3hrs max on the back of the bike but to be honest she's hardier than most female pillions. Most would likely complain after 30/40 mins ,it ain't built for two up touring the rear seat is tiny but it's totally possible. Solo riding so long as it's not all highways/motorways is totally possible, I've ridden for a full day although with breaks for fuel etc and was pretty fresh by the end of the day. Sw motech sell a hard rack for the 675 that also fits the 765 although it's not Listed as fitting on there website. Pics from luggage thread (not my bike).

What type of touring?

Between my original Street Triple 675 and my new RS, I've done plenty of 2-4 day trips of 700 - 1100+ miles. But, most of that is done on fun, twisty backroads. Sometimes I get stuck droning down the highway for an hour or so but I don't spend all day on the superslab. For that type of riding, the ST is great.

I've set up my RS with Hepco & Backer Orbit side cases and have a few different tailbags to choose from. The bags aren't huge but they work for me:

2 up on a ST3 was vetoed as soon as she saw the pillion seat. Lucky we have the luxury & comfort of an Explorer for touring.
The most I would consider on a ST3 would be a couple of nights away at most - and that's solo using my SW Motech Blaze luggage.

I find it both bizarre & hilarious that anyone would want to do a long tour on a ST3 - the same way I'd feel about taking a HD trike to a track day.
I'm not saying it can't be done - just that there's much better bikes for it.
But if its your only bike it will become the best tourer = "better to tour on the wrong bike than not tour at all".

I do solo touring on mine. Much like Mario, 2-4 day trips, 1000-1500miles. I too think the bike is great in that scenario.

I usually just carry a Kreiga us10 and us20, but I just added an SW motech tank bag to the mix. I have just enough space with the combo30 setup, but the tank bag should add convenience and flexibility. I haven't gone to a saddlebag setup because I think it'll be difficult to balance the weight perfectly. I'm a little OCD. Easier to throw it all in the middle.

I took my FZ-07 nearly 1500 miles round trip to Tail of the Dragon last year before I got the ST, so I would think it's doable with the ST. With Kreiga bags and lots of straps I was able to carry enough clothes and camp gear for the week (never did go camping, btw, wimped out and got hotels...). Yeah, my butt hurt like heck, even with a so-called comfort seat, that's something that would need to be addressed if you start hurting after a couple hours on the ST since I can get guaran-effin-tee that it won't get better as the hours and days roll by. I stress the 'effin'. Lots of breaks and shifting in the seat is what worked for me, but I just got some motoskiveez (they're like padded bicycle shorts), wore them for a 6 hour ride last weekend on the ST, definitely makes a difference. The padding effectively spreads out the pain points; note that there will still be some discomfort, but so much better than without those underpants. I think it's better than those bicycle shorts since the padding is more spread out, although would be nice to have a version with thicker padding to see if that gives ultimate comfort or not.

Two up touring would be pretty uncomfortable I say. My wife and I were out for 2 hours and back yesterday and that was enough.

1-up is doable, I did almost 1000 kms in 2 days. Aside from a numb arse, I had no complaints. Though cruise control would sure be nice.

Re bags: no saddle bags for me, don’t care for the look. I use a Kriega R30 (waterproof), and an US20 and 10 on the tail. Hold enough for a few days. A tank bag would be next if I can find one I like.

Nice setup. As I mentioned above, I too use the kreiga combo30. I have an R25 that is awesome, but I dont use it due to previous back injuries.

Have you considered upgrading to a US30 for the base bag? That's probably my next move. I want to mount the us30 sideways on the pillion with the us20 on top.

As far as tank bags, I just got some SW Motech Quicklock EVO bags. I really like them so far.

Started with a Micro, its tiny but looks great. Enough to hold your wallet and a pack of smokes, plus a few misc small items. When expanded, it will hold one 16oz bottle of water, just barely though.

I also bought the SW Motech Daypack. It's much more spacious, exactly what I wanted. 2-3 bottles of water plus a rag are no problem at all.

Honestly though, I'm strongly considering adding the Engage to the collection. I feel like it might match the shape of the tank pretty well...maybe.

My girlfriend and I went out for a quick ride on the RS today. I wouldn't want to ride far on that bike with someone on the back even if she was inclined to ride on the back. She isn't.

If I were going on a solo ride into areas with lots of corners, I could do distance on it but wouldn't even want to try 2 up.
