Swapping OEM Fuel tanks?--Thruxton, Bonneville, Scrambler

I'm on the verge of buying either a 2013 or 2014 Thruxton but I'm not crazy about the current color choices, particularly the gold stripes. (And you've got be crazy about a new bike, right!?).

One option is painting everything custom.

The other option that crossed my mind today...what about swapping a painted OEM tank (and fender, side panels) from another model or another year? Maybe from an older, different color Thruxton or even a T100 or Scrambler?

So, my questions are: Will a T100 or Scrambler tank fit on a Thruxton no problemo? My guess was yes, but wanted to check. What about a Thruxton tank from the models prior to EFI?

There are a couple colors out there that I might like better, so this seemed worth checking out.

P.S. New here, so sorry for the dumb question. I tried searching but couldn't find my answer.

Going to get expensive I think even for used parts. Side panels don't sell for cheap in my experience if they are in excellent shape. Same goes for a tank, maybe $400. I think repainting may be a cheaper option. The stripe can be dealt with without a full repaint if you're okay with the base color. I suppose reselling the parts you don't want would offset the used parts, but that may take some time to recoup.

Thanks for the replies. One guy I spoke with threw out a ball park of $1000-2000 for a full repaint job, but said it varied a lot depending on colors and design. I don't know if $2000 gets you sparkles and airbrushed unicorns :), but that sounded a little high to me.

On a parts website, I was looking pricing out new painted tank, front fender, and side panels for around $1300-1500.

Like Felony said, I could then sell my old tank, front fender, rear fender (maybe...seems like many people remove them anyway) and side panels to help finance the whole thing.

Anyway...just thinking aloud here.

That is very high for paint, you should be able to find quality paint in the 900/1500 dollar range. Seek out local car clubs and ask them who throws there paint, I know there is a healthy car scene in the Mission district.

I did just that.

I was not fond of the black or green of the 2013 model Thruxton. I ordered 2012 parts in Diablo Red. Swapped the parts myself and sold the original parts to recoup a goodly portion back. Came out cheaper than a paint job and I got the color I wanted.

This is my 2013 Brooklands Green Thrux. I paid 500 for an off white with some flecks of sparkle, hard to see in the pix. I took all the pieces to the body shop and put them back on when done. The price for you will, of course, depend on how elaborate you want to get. I wanted basic.
Good luck.

Thanks, and I might have gotten a bit of a break on the paint job; body shop is owned by a student's dad.
I took off the plastic badge and just ordered some decals/stickers. Painter put those on before clear coat.
