Rounded off handlebar end screw

Hi,

I went to put some new emgo GT grips on my Bonneville today. Left side no problem, but the philips screw on the right hand side wouldnt budge and got chewed up as it cammed out. Anyone got any suggestions about how to fix? I'm guessing I need to order a new screw from Triumph and then drill the head off and try to get some mole grips on the shaft of the screw to unscrew it?

Try using a rotory cutting disk, eg a Dremel, to make a thin cut on the head of the screw, enough to get a flat head screw driver in there. Apply inward pressure when you loosen the screw out.

Drill head off, remove bar-end weight, mole grip the rest out (it's fitted with a locking compound so heating might help), replace with countersunk M5x30 screw.

Before you cut the head off try penetrating oil and a reverse drill bit. Often the heat from drilling will loosen a stuck fastener and the reverse drill bit will catch and spin it out. If not you have removed the head and might be able to use vise grips as you planned.
