Power Loss and Misfire

Hey everyone,

Hoping you guys might be able to give me some advice.

My bike was down on power a few weeks ago (i could be in 5th, wring the throttle and it would pull, but not having me flying off the bike like it should). I took the tank and airbox off, put everything back together, also made sure the breather hoses on the tank weren't kinked.

As soon as I got back on the bike, it came alive and the problem was gone.

I attributed it to a kinked breather vent hose off the gas tank.

Current Problem:

Recently, there was a somewhat heavy rain (bike was covered). After the weather passed, I decided to take the bike out and about a mile or two out, I felt a pretty significant power loss and then sound/felt like I was running on two cylinders. I rode home, took the tank off, pulled the airbox, coils, plugs. Plugs looked ok.

Fired up tune ecu tonight and all three cyls are firing , but im still feeling power loss (and it sounds like the idle is fine).

Could is be another kinked hose somewhere? In the past I also replaced the coil collars (the ones the 06 came with were crap and let water leak past them), so I dont think water got into the plug holes. That said, its quite possible that water got into the fuel tank somehow.

Im sort of perplexed as to what else to check. I feel like its running the same as when I was experiencing the first bout of power loss.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Im going to yank both breather hoses and see if performance increases, then ill know something was getting kinked. If thats the case, then im going to buy thicker tubing that will resist kinking.

As far as the two cylinders thing. I have a suspicion that water got into the tank and then the breather hose problem compounded it. I noticed the bolts that surround the filler cap were loose. I wonder if water got in around the rubber seal?

What do you think?

Thanks again!

You might be seeing a plug or coil slowly breaking down. It's a pain when this happens, I always think it's better if the thing just breaks outright.

I would replace all the plugs to start off with, seeing as you felt like it was running on two cylinders. Also, give your battery a quick once over, pull the plug on the stator under the tank and check that all three wires are not shorting to earth.

Have you noticed a difference in running temp when the bikes having these problems.
How does the exhaust look to you? Any difference in color?

She seems to be running better now... I think i might've had some bad gas in the tank. There was more popping on decal than normal, but that seemed to dissapate. The only other thing I swear is/was happening was the idle seemed slightly lower, like maybe 990 instead of 1000-1050?

If my bike isn't ripping my arms off and slingshotting me down the road then something is wrong!
