WebCams are the folks that were doing Triumph Performance cam regrinds... the 813 grind is the one they sold as their performance cam set.

WebCams shows a number of different grinds available.... kind of a pain for you with them being in the US... not sure how long it would take to turn them around with all the shipping time involved... but it may be worth a look... just enter your Triumph info (scroll down on the main page) and it'll guide you along... are there no cam grinders in NZ or Aus.?

Cool that you can get the 813's locally... WebCams quote $545 us, locally... but by the time you add in shipping from & to NZ... I'm sure that gap closes... and it would be a quicker turn around to go locally...

As for the "not worth it" aspect... I don't know about that. It depends on what you're looking for, performance wise, from your Bonnie. I've only dealt with 790 engines, so cam changes haven't been in the equation, as the stock ones work fine and don't suffer the dreaded 5k rpm torque layover problem... Every 865 I've ever ridden has just sort of "shat its pants" above 5k rpms... as their torque curve takes a dump at that point...

I have run the gambit of starting with a stock unit, to stepping up to the pod filters/juiced ignitor/free flowing exhaust... which net GREAT results... and are superb "bang for the buck" mods... After adding occasional (I could attach/detach the hack) sidecar into my usage equation, I "needed" a bit more "umph"... so I went the cheapskate big bore route and sourced a set of 865 cylinders and Wiseco 10.5 to 1 pistons... THIS is the engine set up Triumph should have put in the Bonnie all along... per my dyno tuning - 75 hp and 45 lb. ft. of torque... a torque curve as flat as a pancake... all the way to 8k rpms... Just a LOT of fun... not any sort of intimidating power... that's not the point with the Bonnie... but it's just a bunch of great pull with a simple twist of the right wrist... just what I was after... so for me it was "worth it"... you or anyone else? That's not for me to say...

Not sure how much of a performance bump you are looking for but I think you might want to consider the following. If I am not mistaken the 790 cams are a bit "hotter" than the 865 cams. I would think they would work and I would think you would be able to get some used ones in New Zealand fairly cheap. If my assumptions are wrong I am sure some one will chime in and let us know. Perhaps SCBonneville.

Yes, you can swap in 790 cams... and with good affect... especially in the mid and upper end of the rpm range. That is the advantage of either 790 cams or the 813 grind... the power, most importantly, the torque, doesn't fall off at 5k rpms as the 865 cams do. One caveat... when changing the cams, you must change your ignitor or ignitor/ignition curve to match the cam profile. i.e. an ignitor with the 865 ignition curve won't work with 790 cams. If you happen to have the Procom re-programmable ignitor, no problem, merely switch the map... and of course, up the rev limit to somewhere in the range of 8100 to 8400 rpms... Now you're cooking!!

The problem is in trying to find a set... If you can find an engine in a salvage yard/breaker... that works... but is a long shot.. Every engine I've seen broken down for parts (from a breaker such as Pinwall Cycle Salvage), almost NEVER offers the cams for sale. It's almost always easier to just go the regrind route... especially if you do the swap during the Winter down time in the riding season, if you have one...

And my understanding of the differences of OE cams is that it was only the 2001-2002 790cc cams that were the "hot cams". all later models had tamer cams to conform to emission regs.

also worth noting is that the earlier "hot 790 cams" are no longer available from triumph. if you purchase a set of new cams from triumph for all year models from 2001-2016 (including early 790's), you will get the later 865 cams.
