Mitas Tires 800XC

Guys, I figure mid summer I'll have used up the stock tires on my Tiger, and I've been looking at a more off road purposed tire as replacements.

Folks like Heidenau tires, but being a Speedway fan, the Mitas now being imported really attract my attention. Wear like iron with good grip on and off road.

Any experience?

I'm running a Mitas front and a Heid rear right now. Not too happy with the Mitas, it has worn itself into a peaky center ridge that sends a huge vibration through the whole bike and the whole rider. A friend of mine looked at it and asked me if I could saw wood with that thing. :D I'm going to Heids front and rear in the next few weeks. They are GREAT tires, imo.

I got only the rear M-60. I'll pair it with the Mefo Explorer on the front. The Mefo performs well on and off road and is quite inexpensive. I've been running it with the Full Bore M-40 on the rear, and really like that combo for on and off road. I got the M-60 for spring riding when the ground's soft. I also have a front/rear set of TKC80s which I plan to compare to the Mitas as a knobby option.

Thanks 6girl. Thanks E Wilson. I guess the Heidenau are a known quantity. I've read elsewhere that recent iterations of the popular Heidenau tires now have a ridge running down the center of the tread blocks of the rear tire which somehow adversely affects them in some manner, though I don't remember what it is.

I'm looking forward to more dirt riding come spring and the choices are almost too many to sort through. I've heard good things about the Kenda Big Blocks too, which are comparatively quite inexpensive.

I don't like to spend money I don't have to, but have zero experience in choosing this sort of tire.

That "ridge of rubber" that runs down the center of the tire gives you 10,000 miles of wear, without taking any offroad use away.

Kenda's are cheaper, but don't last as long

I think where the downside of the rubber strip down the middle comes into play would be in mud. But if your goal is to run through mud, you want a more aggressive tire than the K-60 anyway.

My wife has a lot of luck with the Shinko on her GS. Long tread life and no complaints for a cheap tire.

I've had the Mitas E-07's on my XC for a little over 1100 miles now. There rear is great! Good in the dirt/mud, and it sticks well on tarmac. Hasn't developed a flat spot yet. The front is a little weird though... Not sure I like the profile of it. It has a really quick turn in, and gives me the notchy headstock bearing feeling. Probably going to swap it out with a TKC80.

I have run the rear mitas e07 on a husky tr650 terra with great results. The front was a Metzler sahara 3 and got great mileage out of both. From what I have researched Mitas made the front and rear tire to wear about the same rate. So the front has less tread to start with. I wish they left the front in full tread depth and then like the Metzlers replace the rear twice to one front.

I have the xcx now and have battlewings so will be replacing them with Mitas front and rear to see what they are like on a tiger. So I am interested to see where this progresses by then.

Just put E-07's on my 13 Roadie and so far I love them but I have not been off road yet. That will happen in April when I head down to the Smoky Mountains. :D They are surprisingly smooth, quiet and seem to handle well. They do have a lighter initial turn in which I like.

for 239 bucks for both with free shipping from Revzilla they are worth trying!

I was glad when Revzilla brought these tires in because before the beginning of this year you had to get them from 2 places that did not carry them in stock all the time. Cost was more expensive. If you ordered these in the beginning of the year you saved about $30-40. Also worth considering and great tires is Metzler Sahara enduro 3's. I have run through 3 sets of those on my enduro and they are very predictable in wear, rain, dry road. I think both have their limitations on sand and mud though. For occasion dirt roads, gravel roads and fire roads these can work well. True 50/50 tire though. Curious to see what you guys get out of the front tire. From the research mitas did not make the front tire tread depth as big so you change both front and rear at the same time. The metzler I was getting 2 rear to one front. Rear tire went 7-8k miles and front 12-13k. Each tire could have went 1-2k miles more before you had to replace or got dangerous. The motorcycle I had was 80 lbs lighter with those figures (Husqvarna tr650 Terra).
