Fuel Pump - Makes no noise

Hello altogether,

I'm driving a 2003 SpeedFour with 13.000 km. Last Sunday I wanted to take a ride with the bike but suddenly the bike didn`t move any longer. I checked fuse, ok. The starter also works. Then I notized that the fuel pump doesn't make any noise by turning on ignition. So in my opinion there are different causes for this effect:

a) fuel pump breaked down
b) relay for fuel pump breaked down
c) a cable to relay or fuel pump is damaged

Does anybody know how to test the fuel pump? The connector looks fine. If it's only the relay, which one I should change? I enclosed a pic and and connection scheme:

But I don't know which relay is responsible for the fuel pump. Hope that there will be a simple solution!

Best regards from Berlin
Erik

There's no independent fuel pump relay. Have you checked fuse no. 5? It energizes the shutoff switch that the fuel pump depends on. The pump gets power through the main power relay. With the seat off, the main power relay is the one furthest to the rear. I'd check to see if you're getting power at the fuel pump connector with the ignition on, as that will rule out power issues up to the fuel pump if you are getting juice. If you aren't getting power there, you'll want to trace it back to the shutoff switch, then to the instrument panel, then to the main power relay.

It Works!!!

Thank you Mr. Bombfactory :D
I found the mistake! What did I do: I sprayed some more WD40 on the fuel pump connector, then I checked the cable to fuel pump. I moved the cable several times and somehow the pump was making noise: wirrrrr :) but only once. Then I tried to work out with cable, nothing happens. After this I hitted against the plate under the tank and this really works! May be in the same time the WD40 worked on the connector, I don't know. I'm reading in German Triumph Forum (www.t5net-forum.de) that some person did the same! And that it was working! I phoned with the local T-Dealer and told him about the pump experience. He told me sometimg that it could be the connector or someting in the fuel pump was binding (some carbon coil) or the fuel filter is soiled. I don't know what to believe in :)
anyway, thank you very much for your support!!!

maybe the connector has a bit of corrosion on it?

I find it with telephone electrics, you give them a scrape over with a screwdriver and it's all okay again.

No problem giving my input. I agree with Spank that there might be corrosion on the terminals of the connector. To ensure that the problem doesn't happen later, maybe when you are in a dangerous riding position, I would do as Spank suggested: disconnect the plug and clean both male and female terminal ends with a small screwdriver or wire. I would then apply dielectric grease to the connection before plugging everything back in. The grease will keep water out.
