Fuel petcock stuck on reserve?

Has anyone ever heard of this before. The last couple tanks of gas I've been through, I was trying to find how many miles until I reached reserve. As this is a new (to me) bike, I thought that would be good info to have. To make a long story short, I went 160 miles and still had not hit reserve. I got a little nervous and stopped to fill up. I put 3.8 gallons of fuel. This has happened to me twice. Is it possible for the fuel pickup to be stuck open at the reserve level? If I turn it to off, it will die so it is not completely stuck but it seems as though I have no reserve.

Any ideas?

It is possible to do 160 miles without hitting reserve, depending on your riding style- it is not exceptionally high. On one trip I went to about 185 miles before hitting reserve.

The only way you could be using the reserve supply, with the tap on the normal position, would be if the extension tube on the tap had fallen out ( they are just a push fit). That is not likely to happen, but it is possible in theory.

I get approx. 170 miles before reserve if I'm not ripping all the time. I try to fuel before going to reserve but have experienced limping to a gas station with 195 registering on the tripmeter. Periodically I run for 20-30 miles with the petcock on reserve to pull from the ? lower pipe. I fear needing the reserve and finding it blocked with crud. I don't know if this would actually happen, hoping someone out there could clue me in seeing that most of the time I'm clueless.

160 miles until reserve wouldn't surprise me much but when I filled up, I put in 3.8 gallons, which I believe is way past reserve. My 1995 TBird had a 1 gallon reserve in a 4 gallon tank and I'm assuming that my Legend has the same setup. I know the tanks are the same and I can't see why they would change the taps to lower the reserve amount.

I guess I will have to pull the petcock out and check the pickup tubes. The normal pickup tube could have come loose, as Slinky mentioned. This sounds like the most logical solution to me.

Thanks
