I am going to replace my OEM fuel filter and upon some searching, and with the help of some knowledgable forum members, I found two suitable alternatives to the Triumph unit which costs around $50:

MAHLE KL 145: ~$20

NAPA Gold 3032: ~$5

My question is, while they are both cheaper than the Triumph unit, are both of these comparable? I am hessitant to purchase a $5 filter, and based on the picture, it looks like the MAHLE unit has a larger diameter throughout the entire length of the filter.

Does anyone have experience with either or both of these?

No. A new fuel filter is a new fuel filter as far as startup goes.

I am more worried about longevity and hard riding when it comes to the difference between these two models. The KL 145 just looks a little larger overall and also better construction.

Honestly, I am sure both will work just fine, but since we are only talking a $15 price difference, I will probably go for the KL 145 just because I am more comfortable with it.
