Do you wear your motorcycle jacket when not riding?

I have a classic motorcycle jacket, and when its cold out, I wear it even if I'm not on the bike. Just wanted to know if other motorcycle jackets got the same wear?

Hmm, very rarely these days, although maybe 10 years ago i probably wore it much more than i do nowadays.
In fact, i don't think many of my friends wear their jackets outside of biking, good thread because it's not something i've thought about until now.
I'm 55, so to be honest, i feel a bit odd if i do wear it when i'm at the supermarket, in the car and not on the bike.
This is possibly because i see quite a few people wearing biker-style jackets, when it's obvious that they don't ride a bike, it's more of a fashion statement and i don't want people thinking i'm wearing one just because they are "in fashion" at the moment.

casual wear

Nope, the jacket has a big Triumph logo on the back but is heavy with all the pads in it and not really comfortable.
I do, however, switch into my Harley costume, black heavy boots, black jeans, black t-shirt with the obligatory "Harley Davidson (insert any city) crest on it, a black and orange doo rag, and several feet of chrome chains dangling here and there.... it's really handy at WalMart, people just tend to move out of your way rather quickly....:D:eek::rolleyes:

I'm a lot bigger now than when I was 12.
:)
I'm still just as childish though.

If I leave home without the bike (pretty rare) I leave the jacket home.
If I leave home with the bike I wear a motorcycle jacket. Some of these can be pretty long "aways" since occasionally I will ride to the airport and fly. My jackets all have armor so are kind of bulky but at least I don't wear my helmet on the plane.

If I'm not at home then chances are I've got wherever I am by bike, so yeah, the bike jacket gets outings to all kinds of places!

Sometimes though, people give me lifts in their cars and I'll probably still wear my leather 'cos it's comfortable and warm and it saves me having to spend ages transferring all my crap out of the pockets to take with me...

Are they fashionable again? God, I thought we'd been through all that in the '80s

It all depends....

If the weather is warm, as soon as I stop the gear goes off.

If it's cool (less than 70 deg.F -- native Floridian), helmet and dayglo vest go off. Jacket and maybe gloves stay on.

I like warm and toasty.

When I was a youthworker in the early 90s the kids all called me tramp for my army surplus boots and combats. A year later combats and boots were all the rage. I realised then that I was a trend setter!;)

I rather like it that all my once deeply un fashionable Belstaff wax gear is suddenly a designer lable dream. I took an old worn out one to the local charity shop recently and you should have seen the look of wonder on the young assistants face. It was great. I have a nice black leather belstaff jacket too. Mrs Nickwiz and I went to London recently to check out an exhibition of Italian Futurist art. We didn't realise it was London Fashion Week. (don't follow fashion I set it ;)) There was I in my old jacket that I've had years and I was one of the fashionable set! (well I thought so:D)

Its great! And not just a bit funny too.

Not sure yet... waiting for the delivery

Like a kid waiting for Christmas the last few days when coming home from work I scan the front stoop for the box with my new jacket in it... but not here yet. Local shop did not have my size so ordered online. I do not wear my current one except for riding, a bit much perhaps for grocery shopping what with all the "reflectorized" Triumph logos. But the new one is black leather and might just go on a cold day when not riding. Okay, I will admit the final judge on this is likely the wife - "Honey, what do you think??"
