Hi There, thankyou for having me,

I'm new to triumphs having had quite a few Jap bikes. I've recently just picked up a Blue Daytona on a 2003.

She has a Running fault.

If i pull up at a junction 30% of the time the bike cuts out. Restarts fine.

If she is at idle and i blip the throttle again the bike cuts out, restarts fine.

The idle is Rough fluctuating around 950,1000 dont know if triumphs are meant to run smooth @ low rpm.

The bike runs a little lumpy 1,000-3000 rpm on part throttle sort of surges? after 3k shes fine.

Ive changed the plugs and have notice the FPR is not connected
Nor is there any lines going to the Bottom of the tank on the N/s where the roll over valve would be.

Does anyone know of where to start.

Many thanks in advance

Does it have stock exhaust or ???

FPR would not be connected - no issue there
Drain hoses on left side are of no consequence

You probably need throttle body balance
it should be idling at 1250 when hot - when cold (depending on temp) maybe 1500 - 1800

Surging (lean condition) is pretty typical on this model, especially if using Ethanol gas.
Ideally you re-map the ECU (lower the A/F ratio) to get more fuel in at lower end
And then Balance the TB's

Just a small update, rode her to work this morning, Got to the top of the road and she cut again. Got to work approx 1 mile away temp reading 67, she was idling at 1,000 rpm.

Looking at the history she had a Idle control valve at 29,650 and a few new vac lines so someone's been here before.

Ok, so i changed the Rectifer/reg today and a new battery. Wow she starts beautifully, I decided to strip her down and clean the throttle bodies and Air filter housing out along with cleaning up under there.

I put her all back together, started her up she ran up on choke to 1,800 rpm then slowly warmed and the rpm dropped to around 1,100 rpm running quite alot smoother than before. BUT! as soon as i blipped the throttle she rev'd then the rpm came straight down and she died.

She started up immediatly but again the same thing happened. Confused???

I did notice one breather/vac line witch was disconnected, its a converluted plastic line sitting under the airbox on the offside under the tank. I cannot see where this go's?

Im leaving the battery off tonight and hope that the ecu learns new values in the morning, as im thinking she may have got used to running rough. Fingers crossed.... Any ideas most welcome.

think i found it re this post

I dont habe that grommet, so iveconnected it from the ecu which hose was hanging in mid air!, and connected it to that large plastic connection on the bottome corner of the air box. My hose was perished so i will makes something up.

For now i'll try her in the morning and report back :)

CURED!!!

Well did the ecu reset this morning let it idle till hot 83 degree's then blipped the throttle and turned her off. Restarted and WOW oh WOW, completely different bike!

No Stuttering and bucking, and the surge of power of acceleration now befits a 147hp machine.
The throttle response is immediate ! im now falling in love with it haha

Thankyou to all for your help, Gavin

Well my excitement was short lived :(
Took her to work this morning and she is stalling occasionally at junctions.

Doesn't matter if the side start is down or up, Also if you blip the throttle whilst stationary she also cuts out.
Confused ??

jer5ak, The flag looks like Vinyl which is lacquered over.

I keep reading about a Map sensor, I cannot see where this is, There is a Air temp sensor which sits into the top of the air box, But this has a Electrical sensor which go's into the loom.

Any idea's if it could be that playing up? Also where is the map sensor located if it has one?

Any help much appreciated

So im doing another 12min ecu reset,
There is no '12 min ECU reset' on your Sagem equipped 955i. That's an adaptation routine for Keihin equipped bikes only.

When your bike is between 80 and 100°C resetting the TPS sets the closed position to a high value then just letting it idle for 30secs, without touching the throttle, allows the ECU to trim it back to the correct value. Simples.

Did you ever verify what map is loaded in the ECU? My 2000 RS ran exactly like yours on todays ethanol fuel. Replacing the stock exhaust with a Two Brothers made it worse. I downloaded Tune ECU and loaded one of the offroad maps found on the web site and it made a huge dufference. There are several maps on the site that others had uploaded and i tried them all. The bike runs fantastic now the richer settings improve the idle and low speed fueling.

So i inspected the fuel tank cap this afternoon. I do have nearly a full tank of fuel, As the bike was on the side stand i noticed that the drain hole in the top of the tank for water was blocked full of dirt and debris.

The bike sits outside in all weathers, So i'm wondering if water is getting in the fuel causing the issues....

So had the Tank off again today, Made a new Vac line from Ecu to Airbox, But still have the Cutting out issue when blipped Hot or Cold.

Receipt from 2019 mileage 29,600 / Mileage currently 30,200

New Temp Sensor fitted, New plugs, New Idle control valve "stepper motor" and throttle body balance.

Also had prior to that a New Lambda sensor at 26,000

Bike is definitely running rich, I'm now thinking the Map isn't compatible with the Aftermarket exhaust, Looks like a trip to Triumph :(

So I’m probably bugging you lot lol, but I traced the previous owner as I think it’s a map issue. He has the original exhaust! So I’m collecting that tomorrow evening. It’s had a map put on by a local motorcycle shop he said he didn’t think it’s correct! And it’s mapped for 95 ton fuel I’ve been using 97. Fingers crossed .

So source the original exhaust from the previous owner! Fitted if tonight, syphoned the 97 Ron fuel out replaced with 95, Went for a short ride. Bike has more torque and smoother at low rpm but she can still be encouraged to cut out stationary by blipping the throttle. The throttle body flaps are a little stiff wen shutting closed the last bit there take a second to close. Spoke to previous owner he says it sounds like the stepper Motor again, he replaced this only 600 miles ago from now!

Had enough , booked it into a Local Bike shop to see what they come up with.
I did 100 miles this morning, Runs great on the run, still hear it farting through the exhaust but the engine seems tobe smoother at highway speed.

25mph 2nd gear its not as jerking with the Oe exhaust on, seems to have more torque.

BUT! When stationary and you blip the throttle she wants to cut out and you can Smell the fuel so she's deffo running to rich.

Throttle body cleaned
New iridium NGK plugs
Injector cleaner
New Air filter
Oil and filter
Vac lines check
New Vac line ecu to airbox
New Stepper motor 400 miles ago!
New Temp Sensor 400 miles ago!
Fuel changed to 95 ron on advice from previous owner

On the run she the temp gauge read 77-78, getting upto 83 on a Fast run/working the engine. Traffic see's it in the 90's then the fan cuts in not sure if 77-78 crushing is normal??

Any ideas? cus im stumped? Wishing id have bought a Jap now :(
Throttle body balance 400miles ago!
