Up to the 955i Tigers don't have a canbus electrical system in any way.
Not sure about the 1050 Tigers and Triumph don't shout about it if they do.

As far as I was aware it's only BMs that use the canbus system.

 

I don't understand the whole system, but it is true that the 1050's use a partial CAN-bus system. I have read it is only used between the ECU and the instrument cluster.

It has to do with managing sub-systems intelligently with less wiring.

Here is a link with info specifically on the BMW CAN-bus system - http://www.bmwra.org/otl/canbus/ . BMW's uses the CAN bus system more widely then the Triumph system, to the point of using 'virtual fuses' in place of normal fuses.
