I'm writing this from memory, so please confirm with the manual...
I believe the brake calipers automatically compensate for wear, so there's no adjustment to move the pads closer to the rotor.
However, you can lengthen the push rod that connects the pedal to the MC, which will raise the brake pedal height, and as a result will raise the final stopping point of the applied brakes. A lot of riders change the brake pedal height to suit their personal preference. I raised my own pedal, and found the result much more natural ergonomically. I get more leverage on the pedal.

 

@steveboilard is correct. 2 nuts on a rod to adjust pedals. 1 of the nuts are reverse thread on each rod. I had to do mine (the first thing i did after purchase), the person I bought the bike from was 6'4"; I'm not nearly that tall.

 

How did you do that?
I loosened that two locknuts but I'm buggered if I can turn the rod to adjust, even with grips and a rag to protect the rod finish.

 

The rear brake is supposed to be not too hard. Designed as support for the front main brake, rather than to be used alone. That means it is relatively weak and soft.

Along time, when brake pads are reduced by wear that softness sensation use to increase. Also the brake fluid will be old if not changed. When it was the last time you renewed brake fluid?
