I've been cleaning what I think is years of oxidation from my TBS wheels. Only thing is, no matter how many times I apply Mother's Aluminum wheel cleaner, my blue paper towels turn immediately black - even after they're looking really good. I'm waiting until the rags no longer turn black, figuring I've removed all the oxidation.
My b.i.l. whose a metal worker happened to be telling me how aluminum has to be cleaned with a stainless wire brush immediately before welding because it oxidizes immediately. This got me thinking: is my wheel cleaning turning into an endless task? Will I eventually not turn my towels black? Or, is this the nature of these wheels?
Very interested to hear other's experiences. I'm not trying to make the bike a garage queen. It's still mud season and the bike is still fairly new to me, so the cleaning is a bonding exercise. I'd just like it to end at some point...
