So as a newbie to this forum I have been trying to do some research to figure out whether I want a 03 955i or a 05+ 1050. I can't find many good threads comparing them both.
Any pros/cons to be aware of?
My thought is, I always modify my bikes so do I buy a 03 cheap and modify it to make it mine and unique or buy a 05 and do the usual mods and look like most of the others.
If I don't push my bikes very hard am I really going to notice a difference in the suspension and brakes of the 1050 compared to the 955?
I'm more about the torque than HP so peak HP of the 1050 isn't that big of a deal to me.

Thoughts?

I had a silver 955i S3, and Daytona, then Tiger 1050 and now S3 1050

The 955iS3 was great, suspension was hard for me - but same on 1050 and at 168lb I lack pressure on the springs, the fuel injection was a problem for me - lot of time at dealers - and Triumph said at time there was no problem - later on we know that some early sagems were "awkward"....

the 1050 is truly awesome - more money but... pure class

although i havent yet tried a 1050i, i can say that my 955i has an awesome amount of torque and feels smooth as. i love the sound of it, yeah its a bit more agricultural than the 1050.

i like the 1050, but im loving the looks of my curvy 955i :)

I absolutely love my '03 Speedy and my vote would go for getting a nice 955 and making it your own.

I'm 6'2" and find that the 955 ergos fit me better than the 1050.

True, the 955 suspension is lacking somewhat, especially if you weigh more than about 170 lbs. But with your extra $$ saved buying an '02-'03 955 you can spring (get it? :)) for a RaceTech upgrade front and back.

And in my eyes, you can't beat the gorgeous lines of the '03 S3.

Either way, 955 or 1050, they are wonderful bikes. These are the best kinds of decisions to make!

I have both at the moment, an 04 955 and an 06 1050. I like the brakes, suspension and ergonomics of the 1050 better, but the 955 is the sweetest running motor I have ever ridden. I have the CF hi rise pipe on it with the apprpriate Triumph tune. I also have tuneboy, but the 955 runs so well with the Triumph TORS tune I havent bothered to attemp to improve on it. If I had to choose between the two bikes, I would choose based on aesthetics....which bike looks best to you. BTW...the 955 is for sale.

As Staves said....they are both wonderful bikes

All the dimensions are the same on both bikes, Rake trail, wheelbase etc. they have the same frame but they feel markedly different to ride.

The 1050 has u/s forks, better brakes and suspension. It also steers quicker although I`ve never figured out why.

The 1050 motor is, IMHO, way better. You can easily clutch a wheely a 1050 in 2nd gear from 4000rpm onwards, not so the 955.

my quess would be because the rear tire. 190 stock on the 955i and 180 stock on the 1050
