What is this connector. Installing hot grips.

Hey everyone. I am shortly going to instal my new after market heated grips. So in preparation i am just planning what needs to be done.

I will use a relay with ignition switched 12volt. But I really want them to look more oem than after market.

So looking for a switched 12 volt supply, I came across this 2 wire connector ( see photos). It’s just hanging there sort of under the tank. A brown wire which has switched 12 volts and what looks like yellow with red tracer. The 2 wires go into a loom and cross to the left hand side and I think turn right along the left hand side fairing panel toward the front of the bike.

1. Any ideas as to why it’s there and what it’s for?
2. Could I use it for my switched 12 volt?
3. Could I get a male connector to fit it to save splicing into the brown wire?
Also in a photo is 2 bolts above this connector sort of on the base of the tank. I’d like to use one bolt to attach my relay to.

Finally,
Where is the bank of relays. Do I need to remove the rhs fairing panel? I was wondering if there was a vacant slot to plug my relay into. Maybe an accessory relay slot? This may have the benefit of already having a switched 12 volt supply.

Really appreciate any advice. .

Hello Tomsdad,

You are correct in thinking that the Relays are under the RHS Fairing Panel, but I am afraid, NO spare.

There are in fact 2 Plugs Sockets under the Headlight Fairing, a 2 pin with a Permanent Live (for SatNav) and a 3 pin with a Permanent Live and a Switched Live (which is specifically for Heated Grips).

The plugs are awkward to find (you have to go rooting).

You can get the plugs from Pardon our interruption...

Hope this helps

Brilliant. Thanks for the reply.
So I’ll go hunting and find the 3 pin connector for the heated grips.

So am I right in thinking

The switched live in that 3 pin connector can be used to trigger a relay which I’ve bought. I can’t use that connector to power the grips directly.
And I will need to purchase the male part for that connector.

Thanks

A quick edit on the above. The permanent live on the 3 pin connector goes to fuse 6. This is a 10amp fuse.
So i will trigger the relay with the 12 volt switched feed in the connector and supply power to the relay and grips via the permanent live.

Yes - Yes - Yes.

YES - Use the switched Live for your Relay.

YES - This plug is designed for Heated Grips Directly.

YES - It is a Male Plug but I think that most people sell them as a pairs.

Here's a slightly larger view of the cct diagram.
Also the plug that tomsdad found unplugged near the engine is for emissions control equipment only provided on California delivered bikes. It's not required for other markets.
