The OE bar angle is familiar to me because it is very similar to how i set up the Gilles Variobars on my 675 Daytona. The OE 08 Daytona clip-ons were cruel punishment, and the variobars without riser were so much better and somehow reduced vibration. I already put thicker softer grips on the RR which helped with the terrible vibration, but I thought i would try Gilles Variobars on the RR hoping to further reduce vibration. I have measured and drilled the locating holes for the switch pods and 2 for left side plastic grip sleeve screws. Without risers, the inner bar end will be lower, while the outer bar end will be higher. I will try it like this and get risers if needed.

the new bars took a bit of work to get right, but the angle seems better. i hope to test ride at Azusa Canyon after work tomorrow. Cut down and bent the old rectifier bracket from my Sprint to use to hold brake reservoir.
Old / new bar position comparison: outer bar is same height , inner bar is lower 3/4", so bar is more flat. new bars are about 1" further forward so longer reach and more upper body weight on front tire = better performance and harder on wrist possibly, but better wrist angle. Time will tell.

i took a ride up the local canyon after work. The OE bars are 8 degrees and my Daytona Variobars are also 8 deg. I tried these on the 1200 in the next position which is 4 deg. , and it was very comfortable except when hanging off during high speed turns, where i felt like maybe i was too close to the bar and jambed up a little; cant really explain but like i did not have as good of control and not as accurate with small steering adjustments to the desired line. It was only a 1hr and 15 min ride round trip, but my throttle hand did not get numb like usual, it only got a very slight tingle at some point, but idk if that is from the angle change or if these clip-ons are reducing some vibration. After i got home i adjusted them to 8 degrees and hope to try the same route tomorrow. They are lower and forward of the OE bars but at the same angle now. The clutch lever will touch the fairing if turn to tight, so no u turns on tomorrows test ride. If i like the 8deg position i will have to get some risers and lower the clamp down the fork tube a little.

I just got back from another Azusa run. Yesterday i had the new bars at 4degrees to try a flatter set up and it was weird and not confidence inspiring on high speed sweepers, but comfortable otherwise. Today they were set at 8 degrees, which is the same as the OE clip-ons and same as Daytona that im used to, just a little lower and fwd with same swept angle. Oh baby! i found the sweet spot. Felt like i was on the Daytona, but with torque. The only issue is the clutch lever touches the fairing on sharp left(u turn) movement. I am going to adjust the top triple clamp and clip-ons 1.5mm higher and see what happens. The performance was outstanding and no numbness in my hand, so something about this 3 piece bar reduced vibration. 👍🏻

Before putting these on, were you able to rotate the stock handlebars in or out? I’m interested in rotating inward a little, but see that there’s a small bolt going from the handlebar to the triple clamp, so can’t rotate inward or out. I’m not going to remove that b/c it’s likely a safety bolt to keep the handlebar from moving in case. I have a ‘22 and just making sure mine year is not the only one.

Reporting my opinion after my Annual group Spring ride which is three days of fast roads. These guys are fast and you have to keep sight of the guy in front of you to see the speed and direction of the next turn unless you know it by memory. Last year was my first time on the 1200 and it went pretty well, but this year was a big improvement with these bars. Less numbness for one, and with the bars being a little lower and fwd., but with stock angles, i had a little more room so better arm angles when tucked or hanging off. This set up is perfect for me, and i can always add the risers if needed. It hits a soft rev limiter at 161mph indicated btw, had to see once, and bars and control were rock solid at that speed.
