Got a 2013 Street Triple R and the tires are stock 10+ years old. Contacted Pirelli and they said age wouldn't make them unsafe. I didn't see any dry rot initially however did see some inside the tread so think it is time to replace.

I don't track and use mostly for commuting in Queens, NY so some trash roads. I do some wet but not a lot these days. Don't care about how long mileage-wise they last care more about traction and what makes sense. Debating between Rosso 4 and Road 6. Don't ride fast - 85-95 and am getting a bit more aggressive. Open to other tires too. Find myself interested in Metzelers in general.

Based on riding style wonder if I would notice the loss in traction between Rosso and Road. Wonder if the Road 6 would be safer do to the quality of the roads I'm on.

I’ve been very happy with the Dunlop Road Smart 4. They are a sport touring tire, so they are a little less responsive that pure sport tires, but not by much and they handle the bumps and other road imperfections much better.

I loved the Diablo Rosso Corsas and the RoadSport 2s because they were so sharp and responsive But we’re almost twitchy on poor quality roads or with debris.

I hated the Road 5s because they handled like lead.

Of course, I ran across an article comparing Dunlop Road Smart 4 vs Road 6, which would have made me consider the Dunlops. The Road 6s are slower to lean than the stock set of Sport tires however as they wear in a bit are growing on me. Still a tad slower but the uneven road feel is incredible. Went over a scraped highway that was prepped for construction and had confidence. On sport tires would have to drop speed to half and still felt shaky.

At this point pleased with the R6 but think would have been a tad happier with the Road Smart 4.

When I purchased mine, it was fitted with the Road 5s. They weren’t my favorite. I put on a set of Pirelli Angel GTs and they were mostly great. Stuck well in the cold and wet, and I got 9,000mi out of the rear. Only issue is they were a flatter sport touring profile, making the bike not handle like it should.

I don’t think the Rosso 4 and Road 6 are really in the same category…the Rosso is a sporty tire while Road 6 leans towards sport touring as I understand it.

After shopping for a week or two, I fitted a set of Metzeler Sportec M9RR tires last Sunday and have put 600 miles on them already. They are fantastic! The profile is a steeper sport profile, making the bike tip in easier while enlarging the cornering contact patch. Cornering grip is excellent even in 45 degree mornings due to the full silica compound. Haven’t got to try them in rain yet

At street operating temps, Sport Touring Tires will give you better grip that full on sport tires in some situations...like cold, wet, and even dry before the tire heats up from friction.

Some of the better sport touring tires, like Conti Road attacks 3&4 or Dunlop Roadsmart 4 (not the 3) have almost as much dry grip as sport tires and will last much longer.
Unless you are doing track days full on sport tires are wasted on the street.

This is a Conti Road Attack 3 after a "brisk" street ride. It had plenty of grip for knee dragging shenanigans, and lasted a lot longer than a full on sport tire.
