Tire Options for 23' Bonny Speedmaster?

I am wondering whether anyone has managed to find tires that are better than the stock Avon Cobras for different purposes. I find the stock tires satisfactory for most of my riding, but I am contemplating switching up the tires because other bikes often benefit their handling characteristics by changing the tires. The Speedmaster is no sport bike, but I enjoy doing spirited riding on it and taking corners at an elevated pace.

I am also interested in seeing if other users have found tires that are better for touring and all-weather use. Oftentimes those kinds of tires are different than performance-oriented tires but I am still interested in surveying users who have switched up tires for other reasons too.

I have made a lot of kms with the Avon RoadRider in the rear position. Found it more responsive and safe than original cobra.

Unfortunately in Spain regulations about tires are very restrictive and there not many options you can use for front tire and pass legal verifications, due to front tire having to keep the max charge, and other models (including roadrider) being lower.

I am about to test the maxxis M6011. I have used same tire before in other bikes and result was excellent.

I've just had another look at the last test of cruiser tires in issue 06/2020 of the german magazine "Motorrad". A lot depends on how one personally values tire mileage vs. wet road handling and grip. They took an H-D Heritage Classic 114 and rode it around a evenly-wetted Bridgestone test track. The only tires to get a "very good" rating in this discipline were the Michelin Commander III and the Metzeler Cruisetec. The Bridgestone Battletour H50 and Continental Contitour achieved a "good" rating.
Since I ride a T120, I have no experience of cruiser tires.

I went with the Metzeler ME888 Marathon Ultra in the stock sizes. Done about 2k miles on them, and I shall be replacing with the same when the time comes. The bike feels more stable, and seems to handle irregular road surfaces better. All in all I think the bike feels more surefooted and more confidence inspiring with the metzelers over the Avons.

The Marathon ME888 is great tire than was replaced here in the UK in 2019 by the Cruisetec.

I still have OEM Commander Is that're almost 10 years old on my Bolt. They look like they'll make it to 15,000 miles. They perform well enough that I'd replace them with IIIs when they're done. No experience with Cobras but I currently have 2 bikes running Avons (Roadriders, Spirit ST) which I would go with again on them.

My only experiences with Pirelli was on my 1976 Honda Civic that came stock with bias ply (switched to Pirellis $20 each mounted back whenever. Man, that was a fun little car for having less than 70 hp :p) and the other was with the OEM crap used on my Street Cup.

Coincidentally, both Civic and Sreet Cup were my only vehicles that I took from bias ply to radial back to back so I'm biased towards radial if given a choice. Take that with a grain of salt since both vehicles had old, worn bias ply before I got a hold of them.

I tested the pirelli route a couple times - they were hard as stones, and second try i changed before finishing after I got a couple slip scares.

I know some guys with cruisers loving those because they last many thousands of kilometers, but the kind of drivers never lean the bike and only driving mid speed. I get more from my bike and need safety rather than long life.

And a bridgestone exedra set came in a bike I got, and not as bad as wanting to change like the pirellis, but no specially good sensations. And it ended up with a broken surface during a long trip to italy. It was caused by the real bad asphalt in sicily (roads are awful there, even the toll highways) and my tires provider told me not usual, maybe a manufacture defect, but prefer not to try again.

I do actually mount RoadRider in back of my SM. They also offer a suitable size in that line. And I feel it better response than the chrome. I will continue on it in the future.

Not for the front rear - no MT90 in the roadrider series. About to mount next week the Maxxis M-6011 - it has a very competitive price and I expect it will work as good as it did in my Sportster a few years ago, though the cobra about to leave was not bad.

If this maxxis does not show to be as good as it was in the sportster, I will return to cobra.

Ive a terrible time with these (Shinko 777 WW) Have an oscillating vibration in 4th gear holding the speed/revs between 60-100kph. Noticed it immediately but was already well under way. Had the rear re-balanced, that was all good - dealer dude told me my chain had tight spots causing the issue (I knew it wasn't the issue) changed out chain anyway, still the same issue. After 4000km on them they are feeling more vibrating. As far as grip and cornering, they're great but compared to the AC OEM from factory as a smooth ride, they're rubbish. Half the cost of the AC but lesson learnt. I'm changing over to Metzler ME888 WW next week. Slightly cheaper than the Avon Cobra.

Once you go WW - you can't go back ;)
