If you want to mount a monokey top case .....

After experimenting with all the oem racks , the one made for the oem top case (a rebadged givi i think) is the best base to mount any of the givi mounting plates including the monokey or monolock platforms. The reason i like it is there is no cross member i.e. Grab rail but the side of the rack works just fine as a lift handle for your center stand .

The rack is made for the oem monolock plate which is cut out for the two vertical stops that positions the plate to line up with the bolt squares on all givi plastic plates. The monokey standard plate does not come carved out for those pins but it is a very simple thing to drill or dremel them out . Once that is done you can position the plater 30mm closer to the bike seats and that makes a huge difference in the relationship of whatever givi bag you mount.

Of course you can mount the plates for either monokey/lock to any decent lucgage rack with the clamps provided but a direct bolt on (less fidley) is possible
with the rack i mentioned. It is useless of course if you don't mount a plate of some sort on it.

It also happens to be the cheapest rack because there is not much to it. The rack is thick though and can be drilled and tapped to accept legend side bags made for the t 120 if so desired. That makes it the go to rack if you want to mount a lot of different bits to your kit.

Hi. Im sorry but im a little confused.
im looking for rail rack and plate and top box but im interesting at givi top box and one of the dolomiti or trecker.
the rail that you have and the plate that can be 30mm closer to the seat are both from givi? and if yes what part numbers? i m waiting my bench seat to arrive this week and next i will order rails and top box.
the dolomiti and trecker uses the monokey plates right? you have monokey plate that you modified it to fit the rack? and if yes how? sorry for the many questions

I can easily see why you would be confused as it is a very confusing thing which rack with what and the more accessories you have and mount the more variables you will encounter.

Simply stated the OEM Triumph luggage rack comes with a rebadged GIVE plastic mounting plate and hardware so after you install the rack underneath the fender at the back of the frame you will need to use different hardware that comes with rack. Then you mount the plate to that using the hardware supplied. You can not order just the rack portion but if you want to mount a MONOKEY plate * the MONOLOCK comes with the kit. You will need the MONOKEY plate to mount the DOLOMITI top box so you can just toss the MONOLOCK plate but use the mono lock hardware to mount a proper monokey plate so you can mount the Dolomiti or any other GIVI top cases. The OEM tiny plastic top case is the only thing from Triumph that works with the Plate supplied with the rack.

Now to mount side cases on the SS every type is different and you will have to modify any of the mounts you choose to work with the luggage rack

IT IS ALL DOABLE BUT WITH SOME FIDDLING ABOUT AND MATCHING COMPATABLE LUGGAGE RACKS IS THE EASIEST.

IF YOU HAVE THE FOX RESERVOIR SHOCKS MOUNTED AS I DO YOU WILL ALSO BE LIMITED TO WHAT YOU CAN MOUNT.

I USED THE SW MOTECH MOUNT FOR MY "LEGEND" BAG AND MODIFIED THE OEM RACK TO ACCOMMODATE THE BAG. SEE PICTURE.

A little better now. Thanks. And also more questions. I cant see from pictures, but does this rail has a grab bar? A9758179 Is the one that you have? If i take the givi rail rack do you know if it will fit to scrambler? And if it fits directly the monokey rack?

The Triumph OEM rack made for the OEM /GIVI compatible mounting holes is designed to work the OEM perfectly with four bolts supplied. HOWEVER the OEM mounting PLATE is a mono lock mount not a MONOKEY plate but the rack mounting points work seamlessly with a standard GIVI monkey mounting plate which is available from GIVI for not much money and works with all of their monkey top boxes with a much higher load rating and fits much more desirable top boxes including the Dolomiti series.

That said, it does not have a grab rail section as it is open ended at the seat end and is essentially an open loop design to be complete only with a plate mounted . I have used it to mount more substantial aluminum GIVI plates as well but this solution is not as useful for other reasons. To answer your question about a grab rail , the side part of the luggage rack falls in a perfect place to "Grab" when needed to put the bike on and off the center stand as well as stabilize the bike while engaging a pit bull stand as well so the need for a grab rail is eliminated by design. If you are going to ride pillion and want the grab rail for that reason this would not work .

One other thing about mounting top boxes on racks with grab rails is this solution places the top box much further back on the frame and I've found that to be putting the weight too far aft for good handling as well as esthetically less pleasing.

NOTE: The standard GIVI monkey top box plate has fasters and clips that are designed to fit ANY tubular rack while the OEM TRIUMPH rack designed for the OEM top box is pre drilled to accept the patterns of squares on the GIVI standard plates both monkey and mono lock versions. With slight modifications on the MONOKEY plate you can mount the plate MUCH CLOSER TO THE SEAT AND THEREFOR NOT HAVE THE WEIGHT OVERHANGING THE REAR OF THE BIKE SO FAR.

BELOW ARE PHOTOS SHOWING JUST A FEW OF THE MANY OPTIONS FOR MOUNTING OEM RACKS . I SETTLED ON THE OEM SIMPLE RACK AND MOUNTED THE GIVI PLASTIC MONOKEY RACK AS IT PROVIDES THE LEAST AMOUNT OF MODIFICATION TO MOUNT VIRTUALLY ANY OF THE GIVI TOP CASES WHICH ARE ALL FAR SUPERIOR TO THE SMALL ONE OFFERED BY TRIUMPH. THE OTHER REASON IS THE OEM MONOLOCK TOP BOX PLATE WILL NOT WITHSTAND A DROP WITHOUT THE BOX COMING OFF AND ONLY OFFERS SIX POUNDS OF LOAD CAPACITY WHEN WE ALL KNOW A TOP BOX NEEDS TO SUPORT MORE LIKE 20 POUNDS FOR REAL WORLD TRAVEL . ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE OF COURSE AND YOUR TASTE MIGHT NOT LIKE ANY OF THESE SOLUTIONS . I CHANGE OVER TO DIFFERENT SOLUTIONS ALL THE TIME DEPENDING ON WHETHER I WANT TO HAVE A PILLION. MOST OF THE SOLUTIONS YOU SEE HERE AND OBVIOUSLY NOT FOR PILLION.

Reading this thread with interest as I'm picking up my SS next week.

Can anyone advise if the mounting holes on the Triumph rack designed to take the Triumph top box line up with the holes on a Givi M5 plate, or simply can work with one of the universal Monokey plates?

I've got an M5 plate already so it would be good if it did fit straight on. If I need the universal plate I might as well get the regular rack for more flexibility

Regarding my question about the M5 Givi rack, I suspect the answer is no, but if anyone has a tape measure to hand, the M5 mounting points are 225mm apart at the front, 155mm apart at the back and 100mm apart from front to back.

Looking at the pics, the rear ones look a lot closer together than that

NO, but the OEM luggage rack which fits the made by GIVI plastic plate will fit the GIVI mono lock plates while also with slight modification will fit the universal mono key plates. I modified previous bike specific aluminum luggage rack from GIVI to adapt to my luggage rack as well but found all of them position the top boxes far to much to the rear to look good and puts too much weight to past the rear tire.

Thanks for the update, Stixx.

Shame the one I've got in the garage won't go on and I'll need to buy another. It does sit a very long way back as you say.

I'm planning an asymmetric Givi pannier set up at some point (probably without a top box), however as it took me 2 years to get the luggage sorted on my R1200R I'm considering simply getting the Triumph top box mounting kit to bolt my top box to so there's somewhere for me to carry my sandwiches until I get the panniers sorted.

Street Scrambler Side Bag

Seems Triumph could make a killing if they offered a rack to put a nice Givi case on the left side. I went with the SW-Motech, pretty clean setup. It's the SYS-Bag 10L. I had to make spacers for it to clear the Euro LED lights. It's small but it's nice to throw hat, keys, wallet, water etc in there. Looking to see if I can use the backing plate on a larger bag down the road.
I´m looking for a bag for my 2019 SS... and the SysBag is very nice.
I like the Legend LC1 bag, more retro, but I hate see as fit when isn´t full, it seems a cloth. When iit´s full, yes, very nice and classic.

Sysbag seems be semi-hard, and at least, keep the form when empty.

Hi
I have just had fitted to my Street Scrambler a OEM top box carrier (Part Number: A9758306) & was told by the dealer that I had to have the dual seat fitted to make it work!
I had a look at how it was fitted whilst in the workshop & saw that it uses the same fitting points as the passenger seat/small luggage plate hence the reason they say you need the dual seat.
On closer inspection I noticed that if you use some allen bolts 1cm longer than the original bolts used to secure the rear frame fairing/Plate - Seat mount it works perfectly fine :thumb
Old post, I am aware.

But this was very helpful for me in mounting the luggage rack. I have the single seat, with the pillion, and saw that the bench / dual is required. That is not true. The reason is that Triumph doesn't, intentionally, include the slightly longer hex bolts to make this possible. So I was able to find some 30mm bolts from a nearby Kawasaki dealer (you just need two of them) and it installed just fine. I used the four stock mounting points.

I have fitted a bench seat and the Triumph rack. You just need to trim out a few bits of plastic webbing to allow the bolts to sit in the bench seat base.

my 19 SS was just delivered yesterday + surprised i had a rear seat-pad + no small metal rack they show. thanks as you show lots of options + what am i looking for with the bigger but similar to the OE small metal rack. thanks in advance + love those VW Bugs in the backround!!

The small rack should be part of the bike and is interchangeable with the pillion seat. If your bike is new you should have a word with the dealer; my little metal rack was in the Triumph rucksack.

Looking back at the thread, the larger similar rack of Stixx's appears to be a modified recent metal Givi mounting plate though he doesn't mention which one. Looking on the web it does look like there are many that are suitable, though would need drilling and chamfering to match the original metal rack fitment. As the original fittings are designed to support the weight of a fully grown adult, they should be able to support a pretty hefty top box!

The bugs in the background of my photos are specialised drag racing cars; space frame chassis, lightweight bodies and huge engines.

thanks for the reply + bug info. i am a car guy as well + seeing the big rear "meats" told me big power, + your recent pic with the big "hair dryer" answers that question. since an engine is just an air pump its amazing what power smaller displacements can produce with forced induction!!!!

The workshop is the local guy that fabricated by luggage brackets for me. Excellent work, and it's great to visit to look at all the amazing projects that he's got on the go.

just talked to the dealer. said they will mail it. good place as i got my free T-shirt in the mail yesterday as they said they would. many dealers forget you when you need them not Quaker State Motorsports a good bunch + Rob who did my purchase is great!!
