Have any SS owners looked into this yet?

I know Tec Bike parts is currently working on one as well. According to their youtube channel they are in the final stages of development. Might be a good one to watch out for. I'm very interested in going down this route once these de-cats become readily available.

Well judging by the quality of their x-pipe cat delete for the street twin (which is hidden under the bike) their high pipe cat delete should be a good looking piece. I'm right there with you though. The finish on that free spirits one does not look too impressive. Maybe they were rushing to get to market first??

Are you saying that Free Spirits quality is far superior? I mean I haven't held decats from either company in hand but judging by the photos they put out the quality sure does not look like its there. And sure, maybe its a preproduction kind of thing but look at the welds on it. I know I wouldn't put that on my bike, same goes for the Tec piece if it looks like that. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Went custom detac on mine. I emailed George who confirmed there's would have the visible weld too, not something I wanted to see. Found a car exhaust specialist and asked him to do a decat. Came out good, dealer did the remap and Bob's your uncle. AU $700 all up. Pics attached, cheers.

Pipe from the left has a joint in stock meeting in front of the engine, so he made a new piece from there on. On right he had a bend he had to manipulate (took him 9 hours, later told me he under quoted but charged the same), both go to twin exhausts, completely eliminating the cat. Stock exhaust has no baffles so the sound is great.
With back pressure gone, I had it remapped. The map is for catless v & h from triumph, also called off-road map.

Did he make a crossflow or just straight thru. He did a great job. No join is how i want it as i wont wrap again. My sr500 went ratty and smoked. Not good for the exhaust valve on those bikes. Too much heat held in.
I think peter is thinking of cutting th pipes at cat and joining there. There will be a weld but right where the cat cover is so i m fine with that as there is one there now.
Cheers

FreeSpirits DeCat

I installed the FreeSpirits DeCat from A&J Cycles. It went on easily and the SS now sounds like a motorcycle should. At idle the sound is a noticeably louder, but under load, when you open the throttle and run through the gears, the sound is really sweet.

I had always planned to wrap the headers so the visible weld isn't an issue for me. I only had black tie straps, but I've ordered some gold ones that I think will look better.

I had the dealer install the Arrow exhaust Map a couple of months ago. The difference I noticed with the new map was the sound during downshifting. It went from a lot of popping to more of a gurgle.

Please go post a video of it to YouTube ASAP. I just ordered mine today and cannot wait. Where did you get your exhaust wrap? I like the idea

At my dealership right now, and they can't load up the tune. ABS module conflict. Makes sense since you can't turn off ABS on the Street Twin but can on the Scrambler
That is odd because @NKZY has the accessory tune on his 17 SS - with the actual V&H high pipes that the off road tune was designed for.

So either your dealership is mistaken, or NKZY doesn't actually have the off road tune.

I mean I cannot confirm at this time that it was actually the off-road tune but I can only assume it was. My dealer never said specifically "off road tune" but they did say they have a tune for my bike which is catless. It might say it on my bill from them, I can check when I get home. It was tuned, I just cannot confirm which tune was placed on it. Feel free to call Triumph of Philadelphia and they might be able to elaborate.

Edit: I have also had both ABS and traction switched off at one point since having the tune put on so no issues there either.

It isn't called "off road" anywhere other than colloquially. In the software, it is listed as "Vance & Hines High Level Accessory Exhaust" or similar. Someone even posted a screen shot of the software and the available tunes that are listed, a while back.

The only way to confirm what tune you have it hook it back up to Triumph's (or perhaps Dealertool's) software.

When I received the tune, I was fortunate enough to be able to watch the technician through the whole process, look at the software and the various menus and options, and then stood by while the relearn was performed. Took 20 minutes or so total. Can't say I noticed a huge difference, performance wise.

I did the decat around 1 week before the tune, and the decat was a much larger change in performance than the tune itself. If anything, the tune made crackling on deceleration even more prevalent. I expected a richer tune to do the opposite.

@TheDivaDanielle See what other information you can gather from the technician and share with us, this is pretty big news if Triumph recently changed something that affects the SS bikes from being able to use the accessory tune.

Triumph regularly updates their software for their tools, and it's obvious that they closed this loophole just recently. They had my bike for a long time (i was there the whole time) and they were even on the phone with Triumph themselves for a while. They even in the end decided to not charge me any labor despite wasting a good 90 minutes with my bike.

If you guys have noticed, Triumph has completely ceased selling the catless V&H exhausts, so i guess that door is now closed.
