Been scouring retail sites and YouTube for replacement lights on my ST. The US-spec brake light/turning signal combo is pretty much stupid and the aluminum blanking plate is a travesty. The Euro-spec brake light replacement is a no-brainer but I like kinds like the bullet format as turning signals and would like to keep them or switch to a similar bullet style. I think they lend themselves to the British appeal of the bike. It would be nice if we could just switch them out to amber LEDs and modify the wiring a bit to dedicated turn signals but similar aftermarket bullet style signal are accetipble. I don't see any of those out there either for ST's unless other Bonny variants will work. My intraweb powers are anything but expert so maybe I missed something.

What's everybody running out there and what do you recommend?

Thanks, Bro',

So basically you switched out front amber signals for the rear combo lights?

I'll try to run down your thread. I'm anything but a computer wiz so you'll have to forgive my lack of keyboard prowess.

I do appreciate the reply.

Sorry, I could have been more clear. I replaced the front signals with the much smaller amber A9838023 and the rear with amber A9838039 to do this I also had to install the Euro tail light kit Euro Spec LED tail light as the original connectors would not fit the indicator wiring.

I already had the indicators from my Street Twin so that's how I did it. One could also for cheaper buy the Multi Function LED for the rear and the amber A9838023 and get the same effect, smaller triumph style bullet indicators.

Mine from the back looks the same as that picture I believe is from George's garage.

Looks great Drew.

I have never been happy with the large diameter indicators on my Speed Twin, but like their styling etc. and do not think a "sportbike" style LED would integrate as well. Also, when trying to get my bike into my basement for the winter (gave up...not enough steering lock...spent the winter in my shed), I managed to scratch one of the glossy black rear indicators, hence looking for replacement options.

I have a couple of questions based on your post, thanks in advance for any info. Firstly, it looks like you are in Canada as I am. My Speed came with the large multi-function rear indicators, but also with the Euro style tail light, so not sure why you needed that unless yours was a US bike?

Are the part numbers above for basically the same type i.e. amber, single function turn only, just different stem lengths? Could one use the same pair front and back if doing away with the multi-function rears in favor of "turn only"?

Finally, did you order them from different ebay sellers due to availability, or because certain part numbers are only sold in specific countries?

Thanks again.

Hi Gull,

Yes I'm in Ontario Canada, my bike spent the winter in my shed too as I didn't want to store it in the garage I usually do this year and I got overruled when suggesting I put it in the dining room. If the picture was higher resolution you could see numerous scratches as well as a repaired crack on mine :)

The reason I needed a euro spec tail light is the Canadian spec (and I do believe Canada may be the only country that has this configuration) has a tail light, but also the large multi function rear tail lights. The connectors for these were not compatible with the connectors for the indicators I had (which I originally bought for my Street Twin). The connectors on your speed will be a square 3 or 4 wire connector (Extra wires are for the integrated brake light) while the indicators I had were two wire bullet connectors(turn signal only). You could maybe clip wires and add bullet connectors and have it work but I didn't want to mess with that myself.

The first part numbers I listed are the actual front and rear indicators I have, the difference being the length of the wires between the connector and the housing, the front needs like 4 more inches to route to the headlight bucket.

If I did not already own the indicators I probably would have ordered the D40 multi function LED as it would have been around the same price if not cheaper.

The reason I posted international sellers is they are not available in Canada. Even tho there is nothing in the Ontario vehicle code against using them, Triumph is not allowed to sell them here.

Thanks Drew,

That helps clarify my options. I am leaning towards 2 pair of the amber, short-lead, 40 mm signals (A9838039?) and using a Rizoma or similar wiring harness adapter to go from the Triumph square connector to the twin bullets. With additional adapter lead length in line I assume it should reach?

May still look for a similar style black bullet aftermarket set as those Triumph pairs are pricey, but they do look good!

Thanks again.

Either of the part numbers I posted above will fit on front or back, only difference is the length of the wires. The way I did it is not the only way and certainly not the best way, it was just the way that worked for me :)

Rizoma (Turn Signals) and motone (Motorcycle Lights & Switches from Motone Customs) both make some nice ones as well. Alternately just search bullet style turn signals in your search engine of choice and you may find a set that will suit you for far less, theres any number of similar products at ali express if you are so inclined.

I used the Euro taillight and Rizoma signals on back with tail tidy and same Rizoma signals in front. To use the Rizoma signals you need a plug and play adapter from Rizoma. I got it all from A&J Triumph in New York. These signals are sequential which is kind of cool.

[/QUOTE I bought my ST with the New Rage Cycle tail tidy. Not so sure it would have been my first choice but it's a nice clean setup.

Hi there. Tried ordering through the dealer but they said they couldn’t order a non Canadian part because of some rule Triumph has. Tried going to the UK site myself but when they see Canada that’s a big nope. Really curious how you got these shipped to Canada and where you picked them up?

I ordered them from ebay from a U.K. Dealer. You can order them from BikeBandit as well.

Figured I would throw my $.02 in this thread since it seems an appropriate location.

I have a 2020 Canadian model Speed Twin which has the center tail and brake light as well as the multi function red indicators that also work as brake lights basically the US set up with the addition of the center light. I prefer the European models with the small thin amber indicators on all four corners and I believe all indicators should be amber not red, replacing all the indicators with the Euro ones seemed like a big headache as these would have to be sourced from over the pond and I was unsure what kind of wiring changes would be required.

Rear original lights.

First step was to get access to the wiring and see what we are dealing with the original indicators have two connectors one has three wires and one has two wires after some time with the schematic the three wire connector is the indicator function and the two wire connector is the brake function so disconnecting the two wire brake connectors left me with indicators that work as regular indicators but red instead of amber.

Original indicator with two wiring connectors.

I don't mind the look of the original 64mm sized indicators so now I needed to find some 64mm amber ones that will work, part number A9838036 kept coming up as the correct ones, my local dealer confirmed these are correct for my model and the price was reasonable at $120cdn for the set I had my doubts about being plug and play but I rolled the dice and ordered a set, hmmm no mention of Speed Twin on the fit list.

Image

After removing the existing indicators this is what I was looking at, A9838036 on the left and originals on the right not exactly plug and play.

Image

After some testing to confirm the new ones would work I borrowed the original wiring connectors and after some soldering and heat shrink work I ended up with these the green wire in the original connector was not used just the black and the other colored wire which is different for left and right.

Tested again before assembling the tail section.

Now I have what I consider a more normal rear light set up center red tail and brake light and amber indicators that function only as indicators.

I used the rear tail light from a Street Scrambler Kit (used to convert the Street Twin to Street Scrambler prior to Triumph launching the dedicated Street Scrambler model), with Rizoma Club LED turn signals.

Here is what I did.

Fender delete, added Rizoma to the shock towers. So, now I have 3 brake lights....and of course running / turn signals.

Hey man! Aww the back of your speed twin. First of all thanks, I have been planning on removing the rear fender this week. Seeing how it looks confirms that I want to do it!

the turn signals though.I’ve been wanting to do something similar and just haven’t decided which ones to get yet. I like where they are installed on yours though. We’re they plug and play. Or did you have to do extra wiring/splicing?

What about the bracket that is attaching them to the rear shocks? Did they come with the lights or did you have to make it/get it made/buy it? Any information you can give is greatly appreciated.

bluesforchallah, which pannier racks do you have on your bike? were they made for the SpeedTwin? I got some for a T120 put them in a vice and bent them till they fit. A bit crude but it works for now.
BTW I like your helmet. If I'm not mistaken isn't it a replica of some old Brit racer whose name I am having trouble recalling right now.

The Rizoma lights come with a wiring harness that is Plug and play PROVIDED you only want to replace the 2 multi-function lights that are stock. (US Model). I used the BAAK kit under the seat once the fender was off and that part comes with an integrated tail/brake light. So, I wanted to go from 2 multi-function lights to 2 plus a 3rd brake light. That last bit required splicing into the brake light line - pretty easy in retrospect....but, I was nervous initially.

I think I bought the brackets seperately from A&J Cycles....they were inexpensive "L" brackets.

You will need "something" under the seat if you remove the rear fender. the fender is providing a resting place for an under the seat electronic module.....that's the reason I went with the BAAK kit - solved that issue.
