Shorten rear fender and new turn signal for '96 Thunderbird

I was parked in a nice shady spot at the local strip mall when a big SUV backed into me. It dented up the rear fender pretty good and broke the front turn signal when the bike was pushed over. Now I'm looking at repairs. A used fender is pretty expensive, and I'm thinking maybe I should just try to cut my current fender shorter. Has anyone done that? Did it turn out okay? Do you have any pictures to share?

I might just JB weld the turn signal back together, but I'm also thinking about replacing the turn signals, maybe just the front or maybe all four. Has anybody done that? Any pictures of some aftermarket turn signals that look good?

Thx for your thoughts

Drag. I have the same bike and same color about to try out the fender eliminator kit I picked up a few weeks ago. Search the forums for Legend parts for sale or something like that. Eric is parting out his legend and he still had the side markers when I talked to him a couple weeks ago. I believe he still has a emerald green fender as well. Not a perfect color match but style might be the same. Someone else in here was looking for paint ideas but he has a shorter fiberglass fender so you could ask where he got that as well. LMJ if you can find them and I'll send you Eric's number about the legend parts. I can try to search for the paint thread as well since I commented on it. Sorry about your bike.

It to answer your question, I think there is no harm in trying to cut your fender to see how it turns out. Better than it is now. May as well get a little creative with it and see what you come up with. Maybe a kind of rounded W or something or inverted might be cool. Use masking tape to draw out a couple designs and see where it might look good to try the cut before making any decisions.

Regarding the signals, Emgo has some pN: 61-66107 which might look good but they are tucked in tight(much closer to the headlight). That's what I am planning to switch to. You can get amber or clear lenses as well.

This thread shows what the guy who bought my TBS did. I have to admit, it came out pretty good...

Currently chopping a rear fender for my 98 Adventurer - thankfully not for any damage reasons. I was able to buy a used fender on eBay for $150 so I could chop it up and still have my stock one in case it went poorly. There seemed to be a good number on eBay for ~150-300.

I swapped all of my turn signals with smaller chrome bullet signals, they're very sleek on the bike, same shape and color as stock signals so they don't look out of place. A 2pack was $15 on eBay and install was just matching the wires up.

I have a pristine Cherry Red fender set for sale if anyone needs something to work on.

Thank you to everyone who commented, posted pictures, and provided links. I went ahead and cut the fender. It was a bit challenging to measure because it was still a little smushed at the top, but the hardest part was bending the license plate holder to make that work. I used a jigsaw with a metal blade to do the cut and that worked pretty good. I also decided to just weld the signal light back together. The hollow out the bolt idea sounded pretty cool, but this worked out okay. Maybe someday I'll get a different tail light in you signal lights, but this gets me back on the road not looking too bad.
