Howdy,

I picked up my new scrambler 400x and so far very happy with the bike. It's still winter up here so only done a few short rides. I will be breaking in this bike properly! Wish it had a better manual, guess they assume we will all be taking it to the dealer for service. Anyway, be nice to know what the valve clearance specs are as well as how they adjust. Shims vs. Screw type?

Well on to my point. I have started down the path of removing some of the ugly stock crap. First up was all the little stickers everywhere. Quick work with a heat gun, now gone. Next up was those ugly reflectors on the forks. Those required a bit more heat as that double surface tape is strong. Then I took the mirrors off. I took the left side mirror and cut it it down and welded it up. This was 1.18lbs of weight removed as well! Next up I ordered a fender elimination kit out of Thailand, should be here in 3 weeks or so. Will be swapping out stock grips and cutting an inch off either side of the bars. They are too wide for my liking. Looks like KTM 390 aftermarket levers (adjustable) will work. The reach is not to my liking on stock levers.

What are y'all planning on doing to these bikes? I hope to knock 20lbs off the stock weight over the next year. After break-in I'm going to do an exhaust. The stock exhaust is heavy! I hope to see a host of aftermarket goodies soon. If not I'll be building my own exhaust. Hopefully ECU options will pop up too.

JWoody I too have a 400x & will be making some mods. I would like to know if the KTM levers work. I found some adjustable ones for a Speed 400 on ebay but the vendor wasn't sure they would work on the Scrambler, I'm looking it to that. Who is the vendor in Thailand? I have found several in India none in Thailand.
I'm going to do an exhaust.
I noticed on the end cap of the silencer there are 2 allen head screws. I wonder................

Congratulations on the new bike!

For the levers, I can't say 100% that they will work, but both the KTM and Triumph use Bybre brakes and I doubt very much that the levers would be different.

Here is the fender eliminator kit I ordered. Not cheap, but It looks like good quality and I have heard others say parts are good quality.

Yes, Looks like pipe can be "de-corked" but I'm hoping to get that heavy lump off the bike completely! I found an exhaust in Thailand by K-Speed. Super expensive, but looks nice and sounds nice

Adding some weights here. I have not personally verified these numbers, but found some videos posted by a shop in India.

Stock exhaust header is 14.5 lbs, don't know what the muffler weighs (probably 6-8lbs if I had to guess)? I plan to weigh all this stuff at some point as I'm planning on building my own exhaust. I did it on a previous bike (my Honda CB500T) and it turned out pretty nice. I can do better this time and only one cylinder to work with!

Anyway my point is that the stock exhaust is a heavy lump and between the head pipe + muffler box and the stock silencer(s) it should be easy to shave 12-15 lbs off the bike in one fell swoop.

Can you tell I'm excited about this little single!?

I just got my Pro-Taper bars in (using ATV-Mid Rise 7/8). They have a bit more sweep back, but other than that pretty close to stock. I'm going to cut 1/2" - 1" off each side to get as close to 30" width as I can. I might run out of control space on the bars so gotta measure it all up. Also think I might slap on a proper set of hand guards I have kicking around. Pictures coming soon...

Does anyone know if the speed and the scrambler have the same size bars? I would assume so?
I'm looking into options for some lower bars, more of a cafe race vibe, for my speed 400.
Held a tape measure up to them last night and they looked like 1" but i'm dyslexic and had also been drinking.

thanks in advace

Got the bars on today, I really like the bend. Extra sweep is much more comfortable along with my favorite Renthal grips ! Stock hand guards back on as the ones from my parts stash will require me to adjust the brake line and I don't want to get involved in trying to bleed the brakes yet. Shaved another 2lbs off the bike for a total of 3lbs lost since purchase(3 lbs all from the handlebar area too!). Tail tidy is should be here soon!

All the way in from Thailand, a new tail tidy! Decent part, rather heavy for what it is (actually about 2 oz heaver than the stock part!), but strong enough for some bungie hooks I might tack on there later? Had to add a few spacers to get the turn signals to clear the fender. Edit (Forgot to add that I also had to drill holes to mount up to US plate, but no biggie.) Maybe swap out the signals at some point, I love my tiny Motogadget ones on my other bike. Bike is now a bit more "mine." Hopefully we get some riding weather soon! Rain and snow now😩

Quick question:
Does the rear passenger seat mount separately from the driver seat?
I don't own one yet but if I make the leap, I was thinking of removing all the passenger features. I never have a passenger and was thinking I could put a flat rack in place of the rear seat. See attached pic of a similar feature on a T7.

I would also lose weight by removing the grab rail and the rear footpegs.
If the rear seat is removable, can you take a pic of it removed?
Thanks

I have seen this done over on ADVrider forum. Someone had a rear rack on instead of the passenger seat on the Scram.
