I just picked up a 2023 1200 RP on the 8th of march 2024...brand new unit...dealer closed on me (I got there pretty late and don't blame them to close on a Friday at proper time) while making delivery so I was experiencing a slipping clutch on the way home of nearly 200 miles! I also want to add that I was doing a bit of a complicated "2 for 1" transaction and I blame myself for not IMMEDIATELY demanding a test ride FIRST, which was my plan, but I got diverted with unloading 2 bikes and doing the paperwork first. My mistake because I absolutely know this slippage would have showed up within 1200 feet of my test ride. At first I was hoping it's just a breaking-in anomaly but we all know better, right? Strangely the TSB for this was done so they were surprised when I talked to them the next day, said it should have been test ridden but with barely over 1 mile on the odometer I find that hard to believe. Had to get it to some speed to get it to slip (40+ mph and 4th or higher gear so a parking lot test ride won't reveal it) but will slip like it has a CVT tranny with a tiny application of throttle. I've never had this kind of an issue with ANY new (or used) vehicle I have purchased since the 70's...and I have owned DOZENS of vehicles of all kinds/makes/models over the years. So..yes...I am disappointed (I'm only angry with myself for trusting without a test ride) but it was bound to happen someday. I just wouldn't have expected it to be a high-dollar Triumph!

So...my first new HIGH DOLLAR Triumph experience is shot to hell. Wished I had seen these posts about slipping clutch before I went to pick it up. Seems Triumph has crapall for quality control on their biggest bikes.

For those that had this issue, WHAT WAS THE ACTUAL CULPRIT? Because on mine it is not a problem with adjustment at the actuator or lever. I'm waiting for dealer to pick us up to find out what's the deal today, yesterday was scheduled to do this (first open day of the week) but their truck had a mechanical issue. Seems like this is a theme now...:cautious:

Wish me luck. I want to ride home on it today.

BTW the attitude of this dealership is SUPER good compared to all other Triumph dealers I've visited the last 4+ years in my area, unfortunately they are 4+ hour round trip from my home but they are straight shooters, help up to their end of the bargain and no psych games like the others I've dealt with. I'll reveal them if they wish me to in future posts.

Happy belated Bday! I'm holding on to hope that it's a simple issue but I'm amazed at the VOID of information on Triumph's in general, specifically I haven't found ANY parts diagrams like I can find for all the Japanese brands...

You know what they say about first impressions...and Triumph has a LOT to make up for at this point IMO.

Update: Problem was found to be that one of the "outer" plates was out of position in the clutch basket (it's an oddsized steel plate) which prevented the clutch pack from engaging 100% (think of a foot in the door not allowing door to close all the way). Interestingly clutch cover gaskets for this bike on a BACKORDER status with no release date (!?) so they were forced to use the same gasket. So now I'm waiting for this gasket to become available before I schedule the first service, which I'm already over 900 miles on ODO (I don't buy bikes to sit in the garage).

Hydraulic clutch line/actuator were all working & adjusted 100% correctly. Evidently the technician that did the TSB (several months prior to my purchase) didn't give it a real test drive, probably just around the rather large parking lot (this dealership is in the back of a larger strip center) so didn't pull any real load on the clutch.

But when I realized that 2023 1200 Rally Pro is NOT equipped with TPMS nor heated seats (the latter I can live without) whereas the 2023 900 RP has it ALL, I felt like I just got scammed. I would have had to opt for an Explorer to get the TPMS/seat/radar. I know I can add TPMS but really expected this with the RALLY PRO moniker. Buyer beware and I won't be so trusting in the future.

By the way not a single 2024 Tiger 1200 has been delivered to Texas for some reason (possibly the entire USA). Is this just a fluke or a portend of supply issues?

Moral of the story:

1 - Do your homework on what model bike you're going to purchase beforehand

2 - Don't show up at the dealer while they're closing up on a Friday to pick up your new bike 🤪 🤪

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I'm sure you're going to fall in love with your new machine, and I'm pretty sure you didn't get scammed.
Sounds like they're gonna take care of it

Ride Happy :)

Of course I blame myself FIRST, I trusted too much. Assumed things were logical and applicable across the board. Silly me.

Interestingly this Premium Triumph (the flagship line of the Tigers, no?) was and is the ONLY vehicle on my 55+ years on this earth that I purchased new that had a drivetrain flaw that no one caught on "test rides". I guess it was bound to happen, just didn't expect it to happen at this pricepoint!

I blame Triumph Corp for their deceptive (intentional?) model nomenclature. On the 900's (which I owned previous) Rally Pro was the model with ALL the bells and whistles, and that's all I was considering heretofore, as I was told by a dealer in San Antonio (the only contact I had within 150 miles) that "rally pro" is the top dog as far as equipment...they didn't say EXCEPT the 1200's...comedy of errors? An Explorer was not to be had anywhere near me nor was I in love with the extra weight with all that fuel (and this is yet another problem with the "T" brand...scarce dealerships and even scarcer ones you'd ever want to have to deal with) and if so I would have diligently inquired about the devil in the details of the differences between the 1200's.

Yes, the dealer was in a hurry to leave on a friday evening, we got there an hour later than we had intended due to traffic jam...I don't blame them for this alone, I was trading in 2 bikes so there was more moving parts to this transaction, but the owner did a get firm chastisement from me about it and they were generous in their gesture of apology. So all's good there.

Bottom line: It could have been a typical fairy tale "love in the air" transaction...it was not and I still have a bitter taste. Perhaps in 3+ years 50k+ miles on the clock and no more defects to deal with I will have changed my tune...but this one is hands down the worst transportation new owner experience I've ever had in my life...slipping clutch all 200 miles to home IN THE DARK. Maybe I've lived a charmed life till now? All good things come to an end and all that? Ho Lee Fuk I hope not!

On a brighter note 1200+ miles on the clock later this bike is doing it's best to make me love her...great power, great handling (somehow it feels lighter in the twisties than the 900...how is that possible?), the extra 100 pounds of weight all but disappear once you are rolling.

I have to say I am quite disappointed with this newer display that has a LOT of "dead space" not being utilized for USEFUL and NEEDED info like engine temp (that should be displayed at all times IMO, NOT selected from 5+ pushes through a menu!) and frankly all too many pushes of menu options to get info that is useful all the time which REQUIRES EYES OFF THE ROAD! Not a good design IMO on the layout. The ball was dropped. The round "tach" was a good move, why did the genius halt right there? Still have to go through a menu to get an ODOMETER...why does Triumph want to hide this?? I swear the "engineer" in charge of this needs to be sent back to India.

Yep I expected MUCH more from my very first NEW Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Pro.

No 2024's coming to the USA...will this continue through 2025 and beyond? BTW, I'm still waiting on a backordered clutch cover gasket. It's not leaking and I will ride it until/if that happens but seriously, I'm bewildered on this.

With all of this negativity you may have been happier with a Japanese motorcycle. Trying to assign responsibility is a sure way to never attaining the Zen of motorcycles. Just chill, learn patience and enjoy the entire experience.
This may never clear the sensors but I mean it as a recipe to enjoying the experience. I'm old and have owned dozens of bikes. All had marvelous traits and none were perfect. Much like the loves of my life. So gentlemen take my advice pull down your pants and slide on the ice. Al

There are some glaring *** design goofs that I've noticed besides the ones mentioned above. WHY would you put a "heated seat" button on the LEFT-most button position when the HIGH/LOW beam switch is on this same "row"? Wouldn't it make MUCH more sense to put the FOG LIGHT button there instead? (swap positions on heated seat and fog light buttons!) Of course it would, especially since I don't have heated seats nor will I ever add one.

Next, when you actually turn on the fog lights (after the heated seat button is pushed and now you are cursed with seeing "NO HEATED SEAT" installed icon light up on the panel until you turn the bike off!) and then switch to HIGH beam, then back to low, the Fog Lights are NOT on? This was how it worked on my 900...why not on the 1200??? Stupid stuff especially if my dealer is correct that the 1200 is NOT configurable to work like the 900 (same year, same display, same switches, why is this like this??). So now I have to switch fog lights on each and every time I need high beams (which is very often in the rural areas). There has to be a setting in the computer to couple the Low beam & Fog lights like with all the other Triumph's I've ridden/owned that were similarly equipped. Can anyone confirm/deny on this?

Fog Lights are not adjustable?? (dealer wrote this on the first service R.O.) Yet the mechanic was able to adjust them to being ALMOST like the Tiger 900 (a single beam line instead of an X like it was from the factory), but it's still too low, just a tad. Do you just have to BEND the mounting bracket?? What kind of design is this?

Is there no way to switch to off-road riding mode while rolling? I often ride roads that are partially paved and mostly gravel/sand/dirt, always a mix to the asphalt. It would make sense to allow switching to ANY mode while rolling. IS there Anyway to override this moronic setup?

Tiger 900 showed the Odometer for 2 seconds...have to go through 7 joystick gyrations to get this info. Again, can this not be configured to show like the 900's did? (Yes, I mentioned this before and I can't believe they made it like this...irks me)

Sounds like I'm nitpicking? Perhaps...but me and "Tigress" (as she is now dubbed) are bonding a bit. The more I pay for something, the more I expect perfection out of it.

TRIUMPH CORPORATE: I'd be happy to show you the things you should do to the next generations of this Tiger 1200 to make me a lifelong fan. If you don't care, nor will I.

Guud day!

I posted some photoshopped mock ups of what the display could be using all existing elements. It’s not hard, and requires no hardware change - they could do it all just through software, if Triumph wanted to.

it’s on Reddit
Excellent! Yes, so easy to do this with software update...but will they? ODOMETER should always be displayed for various reasons (but I digress) and these 2 screens should be a simple "up and down" to switch between them instead of the "left, up/down, right, push" and reverse to get to the other. Too much time off the road to switch these safely as it's setup now. Shame on you Triumph! Safety first!

I also vote for an OIL TEMP gauge (or user chosen) to "balance out" the Coolant gauge and the ACTUAL DIGITS of the temp is more useful than these gauges anyways.

Anyone got an ear to Triumph to make this happen? (y)

Btw in regards to my foglights NOT switching back on from Highbeam back to low...well...they work like the 900 did now. Unbeknownst why it decided to do what it did not do until after the first service...perhaps some sort of software/firmware update? The funny thing is, I mentioned this on the repair order and the tech responded "cannot change this setting". Something changed. As long as it keeps working like this I'm grinning...it's the little things in life.

It's been a great machine. But I've only put 2k miles on it. It's been about 6 weeks of ownership. It would be nice to have more info on the pretty display.

Updates! Saw my first 2024 Tiger 1200...a GT model but it was sitting in the dealer's showroom.

No clutch issues since the first day. I don't feel ok going to 10k miles on any oil. I am planning on changing it at no later than 5k miles. Is there any great argument to go the full 10k (or 1 year) interval? I haven't seen one yet. Please share if you have one.

Does anyone notice that the air intakes for the radiators tend to collect insect debris at a rather alarming rate? I was looking to buy/make some screens to prevent the build up I've been removing (lots of bugs flying around lately) but no such luck.
