Anyone install the Motone fender elimination kit? I like how this kit includes the turn signal attachments. Any opinions how this one compares with the British Customs or Maund etc.. Thanks!

The tail light sticks out a bit more and the turn signals stick out a bit wider compared to the Maund Speed FEK. The Motone tail light seems to be a bit better quality and has a ground wire unlike the taillight that comes with the Maund FEK.

I bought both but decided I liked the look of the Maund FEK (the model that includes turn signals) better.

One problem I had with the Maund is that the plate holes do not line up with Canadian plates. I will have to create some kind of bracket to correct this.

I just installed this on my Bonnie but had some issues with the front mounting bolts nearest the battery. The supplied bolts are too short and the aluminum spacers are too shallow as well. I have sent them a message and am waiting on a reply. The rest of it looks excellent. Now I have full LED's aside from the headlight.

Thanks for the update and photos. Sounds like Motone is going to make this right. I was just about to purchase this kit, but will hold off until this is all worked out. I don't mind buying a few longer bolts and spacers, but don't want to cut into the plate to get it to fit.

Is the LED Tail light nice and bright?

The light is pretty nice. The only negative about it is the tag lights. They are white LEDs that shine through the red lense so it isn't as bright as it probably should be. I'm trying to figure out a solution now.

Also cutting the plate is not a big deal at all. I just used a file and massaged it a little. It's just aluminum after all so no worries of it rusting out on ya! However, Sam should have a new solution for us shortly.

Did the motone fek come with fitting instructions? I've just received mine, but nothing about how to fit it was included...or is it ridiculously simple...like me! ?

Well I fitted the motone fek today...needed a fair bit of work with a dremel to get it to line up correctly...but looks good now it's on...but not what I'd call a piece of precision engineering, that's for sure.

My Motone FEK fitted without need for modification. I did encounter the reported problem of needing a couple of longer bolts and a couple of spacers. Nothing else though. Mine was purchased in June and fitted to a 2015 T100 Black. If you needed a dremel does this mean the design has been changed since June? What did you tweak with the dremel?

I emailed Sam at motone, I'm sure he won't mind me showing his response to my feedback...the main dremelling was required at the two outside rear edges. Also the angle it is set at at the rear didn't seem to be quite big enough, and the same short bolt thing as other posters have described.

However, now it's on, it looks really good.

Here's Sams response:-
Hello mate,
thanks alot for your feedback, yes in fact I just fitted the kit to a 2014 T100 last week.

We originally designed it based around the 2004 frame, its largely the same but I note an increase in electronics and other things with the newer bike.

I will definitely revise the design on the next production, increase the space at the sides for the cabling and the bend angle didnt seem quite the same for the front bolts on the 2014 as the 2004,

thankyou very much for your feedback and time
Sam
So there you go, next batch should be better!

Thanks for the detailed reply. I know I'm always nervous about buying custom bits of any size because of my lack of mechanical skills. As a result I try to find parts that require the minimum of 'fine tuning' to install. Feedback like this is what persuaded me to pull the trigger back in June. I'm sure others will find it useful in future.

I had the same problem. I also noticed that I simply could not get the plate up between the frame tubes and close enough where the plate with the spacer would be up against the frame, which is also why the bolts are too short. But with longer bolts it works.
Yep, shifting the whole assembly backwards to line up the rear bolt holes was my main problem too, no clearance between the two sub frame tubes and the outer rear edges of the plate. Hence the dremelling. I also knocked a bigger bend angle into it with a hide faced hammer. Didn't need to use longer bolts that way.

I'm about halfway through fitting this onto my 2014 Bonnie. It certainly hasn't been dead simple so far. I managed to get the front to fit using the provided bolts, but had to use a large c-clamp on each side to get the pieces close enough together to attach. Problem now is that it sits too far forward. The holes don't line up in the back at all. Going to try pulling it all apart again and just using longer bolts and taller spacers. Hopefully the rear will line up that way.

The kit I received in early Jan certainly had fitment issues on my 2014 Bonnie. I had to experiment with different size bolts and spacers, and like a previous poster, had to cut a slot in order to reinstall the seat.

I'm happy with the final result, but it took way more work than I had expected. Definitely not plug and play.

Thanks Backpacker. I have to walk a tightrope around here as to not offend the powers that be. >:)

If you follow the time stamps on the early posts, you'll see that this (was) a problem some time ago and long since sorted by Motone. I would think any & all of their authorized sales agents have properly fitting kits by now.

And a great kit they are too. Choice of lamps, full wiring harness, turn signal mounts. I fully endorse them.
