From facebook I realized that a few of us have installed the aftermarket autoblipper from HM Quickshifter.
I was fortunate to try mine yesterday even though it´s still winter i Sweden. However I used the config file downloaded from HM Quickshifter web page and found that these settings were not ideal for my set up atleast. Since I had a BMW R1200R with shift asisst, I had an idea on how it would work, I have also tried my friends -17 Tuono. But with the config file the downshifts was a bit jerky in the sub 5000rpm region. Today I made some Tweaking with the set up and got it quite acceptable in the end. I guess I will get it spot on eventually. But I was thinking, If I share my settings I might save some one else some time, and in return somebody might improve on my settings and share it with me... So here it goes

I installed it myself, installation is very straight forward. It was a very quick job. As always, the worst part is that screw that falls down into to the bike and takes 2 hours to find, then another 2 hours to retrive it, wedged in somewhere where your hands can´t reach :) . Taking that process out of the equation I think the job itself took about 1 hour including a bit of cleaning up under the airfilter box.
Download the installation manual for STR from HM website and your done!
Please share your improved settings with us, once you get there.
Cheers!

Cool! I imagine that it´s a tiny place. I love that about the UK, there seems to be alot of small quirky enterprises going, doing all sort of nice engineering. It was a challange to order from them, I could not use the web shop since I wasn´t in the UK. Sending them an e-mail did not work either because my mail ended up unread in their junk mail ?. If they improve their webshop the might improve their sales and be able to afford a bigger place...
Cheers!

Today I was out for a 2 hour ride. With my published settings the downshifts were ok except between 3500-4000 rpm. I have now changed the bands so Band 1 is now 4000 and 2 5000 and so on. Changed the throttle and bliptime bias for band 1. It's gonna be a while before testing these new settings. But once I tried them I will report my findings. Has anybody else got around to test yet?

Hi again! I guess most of you are in lock down. I am not but lost the inspiration to do anything almost... However I tried the new settings yesterday and I think it improved the downshifts quite alot. I will not share the new settings yet, because I had some new issues, the upshifts stopped working from time to time. Strange, have anybody else experienced that?
The downshifts worked all the time but not the upshifts. I will try to alter the sensetivity for upshift a little. Once I get it right I will share all my settings.
Cheers!

Since no one else are sharing their settings, I did some more tweaking. Now it`s perfect even in the lower rev. range. I have hade some issues with upshifts under hard acceleration, I will try to sort that out later. But now the downshifts are nicely linear trough out the whole rev. range. Here are my latest settings:

Hello Magnus.

Had someone install the HM SABS on my 18 Street Triple RS and the dash got bricked. At first, the blip is on the upshift, so just used the clutch/manual. The next ride, the blip on the upshift was gone. Then when I had it reinstalled, the installer said the bike won’t start and had to replace the dash. That’s what happened (that I know of).

Anyway, as I’m planning to install this myself and don’t want to commit same mistake, what do you think was the mistake that I need to avoid?

Also, should I disconnect the battery first before anything? Or is that ok? Have a phobia now, the dash replacement is expensive!

Cheers

I’m really happy with band 2 and below (both blipper and shifter). Now trying to figure out band 3, and am sometimes noticing rough changes 3rd gear > 4th gear. Only sometimes though, so not sure I will adjust for that.

FYI @Tripleboo I also think I notice the same difficulty you’re experiencing at hard acceleration - at higher rev range+ higher gear. From what I recall it almost felt like it was shifting too late after the engine kill? ... hard to replicate this to play with until I get to another track day!

Hello,

First of all, thank you for starting this thread. Lots of inputs!
I have a 765RS with 48,000 km back here in Bangalore, India. Used as my daily and I think I finally want to go one step ahead and install the HM Autoblipper for a little more fun.

I had a couple of questions in mind though,

Is the install Plug and Play? Hope it doesn't need the Dealer Tool?
Triumph Service and the local independent garages aren't too good with anything apart from regular services. Would this be possible to install at home thereby avoiding the service centre altogether. I'm well versed with normal service routines.

Second, Is it easy to find a "good enough" setting and be done with it? Or is constant adjustment needed.

Thanks

I already am happy now with settings, so there’s no constant adjustment. You could use the base configuration settings recommended by HM for hard (high RPM) riding and just save it on your PC and just open and “Write” it to the bike if needed, such as when you’ll be riding the track or twisties. Then go back to and open your saved custom setting for normal street riding. That’s it

Hi there! Installation is pretty straight forward there are good instructions. Can you replace spark plugs you’ll be fine. If you use my latest settings you will find them good enough. Just make sure to get the pro version, if you go for the lite I don’t think you can alter the settings.
Good luck!

I'll be taking my Street 765 RS down to Gareth at HM on Monday. He is going to set up my SABS pro on his dyno. Being that he designed, developed and programmed the SABS I'm hoping he knows how to configure it. He will be placing the config file on the HM website. I'm currently using near identical settings to Tripleboo. It'll be interesting to see how different the settings arrived at from the dyno session are.

I’ve done a few hundred miles and a trackday with these settings now and in general they work very well. The only minor issue i have remaining is that occasionally on a 1 to 2 upshift (with or without clutch) the system is detecting an issue (probably timing) and failsafeing, this disables the unit for about 30 seconds. Gareth suggests, reducing upshift sensitivity still further and/or increasing 1 to 2 kill time a bit, I’ll have a go and see how it floats.

Version 4 of the HM SABS software is available and has a firmware update with it. There is also a new 765 base config file available which now includes pit lane limiter and launch control! However, that file is misleadingly labeled "765 Speed" and is very rudimentary (no biases). I loaded it today and the downshifting was adding way too much throttle. I spitballed a few biases into the configuration and it was absolutely a HOOT! I'm not sure whether part of that is the fact that I installed a Sigma slipper clutch and disabled the HM over rev? I also worked my way up to min throttle of 25% which is so much better than having some downshifts rejected when you are leaving a breath of fuel in milder downshifts.

I need to work on the upshifting config next. Gareth upped the base sensitivity from the previous file.

If you upgrade 1) make sure to screen capture your current settings as I don't think V3 files are openable and upload able in V4 (just an impression I got, I did not try it) and 2) the SABS unit has a problem seeing speed from the ECU so I am having HM "Team View" with me next week to get the speed to come up for the new features.

The v4 update and Gareth's settings worked like magic for me. What a huge improvement! Thank you so much for sharing!

However, a couple of weeks ago, my quickshifter stopped working mid-ride. I checked all the wiring and connections - nothing there. I'm suspecting the sensor died. Using the shift-direction wizard in the software, it doesn't pick up any movement. I did write the HM folks but never heard back.
Any other thoughts here would be greatly appreciated.

Or you can get Gareth at gareth@hmquickshifter.com
Surprised at lack of response they are normally excellent
I have also had a couple of instances of the unit cutting out completely, Did it start working again the next day ?. Seems to have been caused by it overheating. I improved matters greatly by relocating the unit up by the ECU behind the airbox. This was not ideal so I got Gareth to supply a 70 cm extension for the APS and button cable and located the SABS in the tail piece. Mine has not done it since.
