Dog Carrier

I've decided that I want my dog, Sofi, to ride with me. She's a medium sized Standard Poodle, 20 months old and weighs 45 pounds. I searched online for carriers that would do. The only thing I found was a $2,000 dollar custom built job. I ain't doing that. So, I decided to go my own way. Frankly, the post on here about the propane carrier top box inspired me. I've ordered a black 19X13X11 inch milk crate box. I'll cut out one of the ends, and just bungie or strap it down on top of the seat. I also ordered a foam pad for the bottom of it, and goggles for Sofi. I'll post some pics as soon as I have the little project done. I'm SO excited! :ROFLMAO:

My cattle dogs want to go out with me on my bikes all the time but they get up set when I roll down the side of the house on my bike they both let me know with a nip on my heels, but they don't do it when I come home lol, they just don't get it they are left home to protect the shed, best home security that can be had.

"My conscience won't allow it."

Ah yes, I see. You're confusing "can't" with "won't" but I get your point.

Look, I haven't heard or read any horror stories about dogs just spontaneously falling off of motorcycles. So, I'm thinking y'all are concerned about the dog getting hurt when something bad happens that would hurt you too. If that's the reasoning behind the expressed reluctance to take the dog along, then wouldn't the same argument apply to carrying any passenger, or even riding the motorcycle yourself? I intend to have Sofi in a vest harness attached to the bike, so that she would stay with me in an emergency braking situation. I'm pretty sure that, together with the carrier crate, will be sufficient protection for her.

Second... a passenger might see/sense an impending accident and may or may not take defensive action.
A pet can't do that.
I don't know about that - Our dog Sierra, an Alaskan Malamute, used to be able to anticipate corners and lean into the corner to avoid rollovers in the back deck of my little car. 🙃 Except for that one time..... hit a corner real hard and she did a full 360! 😆 Man, I miss that dog. She was the absolute best!

Seriously, leave the dogs off the bikes. For their safety and the riders.

OK, the crate came today, and I got the end removed and the edges de burred and smoothed out. I've experimented with my short bungee cords, and know how I'm going to secure it for easy on, easy off. I'm waiting for the foam pad for the bottom, and then it should be all together. I wish it weren't so darned hot. I don't feel like taking the bike and dog out in 103˚ F. The overnight lows are supposed to get down into the 75˚ F range, so perhaps early morning riding will be doable.

Hey, just to easy your minds, I won't be taking Sofi out if she doesn't seem to love it. I wouldn't force that on her any more than I'd try to force it on another person. I will show her what it's all about, introduce her to it. Then, if she runs to the bike and wants to get on, or jumps on by herself, I'll be taking her with me on occasion. Otherwise, not.

OK, I've reconsidered. I got all the parts together, and took a look at what it was going to be like if I finished it up. I don't like it. I love my dog, and I would like to have her with me. But, it just doesn't seem like a good idea now that I'm seeing the actual thing. I'll just be leaving her at home unless I'm taking the car. I have a cute little convertible, so I can ride her around in that. Thanks for all the comments. :)
