There is a small piece of the insert under each buttock at the pressure points. The net inserts are stiff and springy. The back and front of the seat are shown below.

 

The inserts are 13 mm (1/2") thick, only a small fraction of the total foam thickness.

 

There is also a bit of padding on the seat cover, but it compresses easily and likely does not do much.

 

So, how does it ride? It's hard to make a direct comparison with the stock foam, but I think it was more "Comfort"-able on our ride last weekend. Addressing the pressure points does seem like a reasonable idea.

BTW, I put the stock Street Twin cover back on. I did not think tuck and roll was the proper look for the bike.

I agree, thank you for posting this. Very informative and good to know. Looks like I’m just as well keeping my T120 stock seat - to be honest with you has been very comfortable for me. I have often wondered about a comfort seat, I guess I can put that thought out of my head.

 

I put a Street Twin seat on my Street Cup to accommodate a passenger and the difference is noticeable. The Cup seat is roomier and has more padding.

 

I used to have both the original and OEM comfort seat for my T120.

For me they felt different. For a light weight person, the comfort seat had less surface softness and felt firmer. I also sat a bit higher than with the standard seat.

In the end, the standard seat was better fo me. I liked the looks of the Comfort seat though. Also, I have a hunch that the Comfort seat would work better with a person that has more weight than myself.

As I was after surface softness, in the end I dumped the exteriors of the Comfort seat and took the plastic frame to an upholsterer. He made me a seat that now beats both the originals .

Makes sense as no two riders are the same, but the T120's stock ergos are the same for everyone. I found my T120's stock seat to be all day comfortable and so have not modified or replaced it.

As a side clearing... being the foam same thickness do not mean too much at all.

Usually it is not desirable the seat to enlarge too much for comfort, but it does not mean in any manner every seat is similar to other with same size.

There are many different foam compounds. And they comfort and feel can make huge differences.

I have tried seats that were much more comfortable than others, also being thinner, because the foam behaviour was totally different.

Heat dissipation, reaction to weight, flexibility... can be very different between different foams that look similar.

I have not direct experience with the T120 comfort seat but the way to check how it works is seating on it, not measuring the size.

 

I opted for the comfort seat when I bought my T120 Black brand new, as the comfort seat was black. Still got the brown seat, just never fitted it. Black suit, brown shoes.... Hmmm

 

Interesting dig into the details @Gene Ungar; thanks for doing the dissection. My ‘21 T120 Black came with the standard brown seat. First few rides out (30-40 mile rides) had my rump feeling like I needed to move around after about 5 miles to avoid hotspots (I’m about 180lb in gear). Ended up buying a backrest for my wife’s benefit and the black comfort seat for me. Whatever small differences Triumph made were enough to make me not think about seat comfort anymore…all good.

 

I have both and I can ride longer on the comfort seat. When I was in my early 20s I could have rode on a plywood seat all day, now 4 decades later, no so much.

 

The Comfort Seat for my '17 T100 is flat, whereas the stock seat was sculpted - and that's where the difference came. The stock seat didn't let me slide far enough back and the upswept area hit me just wrong.

 

Just because it's called a comfort seat it's more a name than anything else, when I brought my 2016 Thruxton it had a solo seat and needed the duel seat for the wife as well my throw over leather saddle bags to sit, I found I had a sore bottom riding with the stock seat within 2 hours in the saddle, the duel comfort seat is a bit better and can ride all day without any problems, but its more to do with the shape of it than padding, but if you are planning long distant travels then invest in a lambs wool seat cover and your bottom will love you for it.
