The sound change is simply because you can hear the induction noise clearly, and is unrelated to exhaust sound. Just out of interest can you take some photos of the cross-pipe installation?

I suppose there could in theory be a quality-control issue in the x-pipe such as a partial blockage, but the probability of it being exactly the same as a cat restriction is pretty small. With the cat removed you should get a much more raspy and crackly noise when you suddenly crack open the throttle, and when you're riding it for a while and do engine braking you should get much more 'popping' from the exhaust. The OEM mufflers are much quieter than slip-ons, but not that much quieter!

As you said, I doubt the slightly thinner pipe than the Meerkat would make that much difference. Having said that, we fitted Arrow headers and PCV to a bike a few weeks ago and struggled to get power gain, even with a DNA filter. Removing the snorkel was the only thing we could find to improve torque, which was all a bit of a mystery.

It might be worth taking it to a tuner, explain that you've removed the cat yet seen zero change in airflow, and get them to check for possible causes. Your mixture isn't at all bad, so I'd have said the benefits of a PCV will be marginal, and would fix up the mid-throttle responsiveness but probably do little for the top-end. Oh, it would also get rid of the loud popping on overrun that for some weird reason you don't get!

Do you know which map you have loaded? If it's been serviced since last August it should be on the latest 30042 tune, and the info might be on your last service record sheet.
I have no idea if that might be an issue, as I'm struggling to find something to suggest.

Here are the pics of the installed x-pipe

No zero concern. It's a myth conjured up by Free Spirit.

Mine hasn't moved all year as well, in fact it is in there so good it was a pain in the azz fitting it with the clamps and lining it all up perfectly.

Any other thoughts or comments? I'm not sure what to do at this point, but I think I'm just going to rewrap the headers and move on. Maybe PCV at some point, but it sounds like that might not even do anything.
Are you still running stock cans? Mackk is running an X pipe and cone shorties and sounds pretty mean. Looseparts even experimented with some slip ons, so you might just have to keep chipping away to at least get some decent sound from your investment. Slip ons might improve your dyno figures also. In for a penny in for a pound I guess. Keep trying.

I am running the stock cans and I honestly don't hate them. They are a little big, but some of the others are a little small for my taste (I think I like the SC Project best) plus @jsobell mentioned that the slip-ons actually hindered performance when they were installed after x-pipe. And, I ran into another Thruxton owner yesterday while on a210 mile ride and he actually said that he thinks my sound IS improved after x-pipe, but I still don't hear much difference. I was in it for performance and not sound anyway so I will probably wait until I see something I really like.

As always, I appreciate all of the comments and suggestions.

Meant to attach pics from my ride.

I've never said slip-ons hinder performance, but if you're happy as-is then stick with what you have. I have no idea why you've seen no torque improvement, it really is a mystery.
Good luck though, and let us know if you find something that miraculously introduces the power :)

You said the "torque has shifted slightly down" so I misunderstood and took that as a performance hinderance.

Sorry, I meant the torque shifted down the RPM range slightly, rather than lowered. You can see from the charts that the overall measurements are pretty much identical, which shows how free-flowing the OEM mufflers are. All this talk of the OEM units being hugely restrictive is nonsense, as they are just very heavy, huge, and excellent at muffling exhaust noise :)

Recently installed the Meerkat xpipe on my R. Nice quality product. Have the BC predators on it as well. Very pleased with the sound, mild at idle and down the highway. Nice throaty sound on accel. Seems a tad bit faster on the butt dyno, still have to pull the snorkel though.

Nice. In my eyes a slightly smaller can would suit the look of your bike.

I met JDM55 on his 210 mile ride on Sunday May 14th, very cool and nice guy. My R is only 2 weeks old and I just switched to the Vance and Hines slip-ons. I can attest that JDM55s pipes do in-fact sound louder than just stock. I noticed him when he was slowing down and pulling in for gas. When I approached him I actually thought and even asked which after market pipes he was running due to the sound. His bike sounded much better than mine did stock. I just got the Meerkat today and will be fitting it this week. I have been told its a PITA to do the cat removal...any tips or shortcuts? I will also Dyno it once its done. I will also de-snorkel once I figure out how that's done. The search function on this site isn't the most useful tool.

I took the slip-ons off (VH on the way) Loosen both headers and clamps on balance tube. Remove left & right side intermediate pipes. Then I could work on getting the cat out. I even took out the upper shield/bracket assy. Let me know if I should have left it in. (Friday 2/10/17 9:30) Bike is in the dinning room, tools are in the garage.....lots of trips to the garage for tools. I think Triumph used every different size of nut, bolt, hex & torx just to mess with me. OH, I also needed a Torx (Star) T55. (Bolt for left frame to engine) I only had up to a T50....had to run out and buy one.

That's as easy as pie. Just remove the left side cover by pulling it straight out, it's mounted using three plastic pegs that fit into rubber grommets attached to the frame. Underneath you'll find the snorkel that is fastened with one torx screw so just remove it and pull the snorkel straight out. Shouldn't take more than a minute, tops.
