I was thinking about buying one of the 400s but I hear all the time about problems with stalling and engines cutting out , is this true.

I personally know three persons with 400 and nothing about stalls.

More than that, i have close relationship with the chief mechanic in local Triumph dealer, they have sold almost 50 units and not one single case of anything similar. A few minor issues with early software fixed with updates and some minor control elements failing and being easily replaced.

I asked because planning to maybe buying one and confidence enough to tell me anything i should know.

You probably heared things because usally people speaks high only about problemas. Most users do not come to forums to fill a post sayinf "yes, my bike IS still running fine" once per month.

Either way thats what warranties are for. Surely some units will have issues. And usally they will be fixed.

Well I bought a brand new Yuasa YT9B-BS AGM Battery for the bike. Same thing when cold, hard starting. The cranking to me seems to be a very low RPM. Now that I have a new battery I crank it for a few seconds maybe two or three times, THEN she will start. Not my idea of fun.
My 2022 RE Classic 350 with the original battery starts within one revolution of the crank every time. I park the two bike right next to each other  🙄

Check the dedicated Triumph 400 forum. There are some there that have experienced issues with starting when cold.
No it doesn't, but thanks for guessing and sharing all your knowledge 🙄

SOME. That means a known general defect.

And @LIRider maybe it is not the case in that general fail... but a problem with air sensors could make that symphtom.

I know there was some issue (not sure what, I do not have one 400) with some units here in my area that was solved with a software update. And now they are all happy owners.

And if it is not that issue, some time in the future they will do a recall or a general fix or whatever. But only after some customers go an claim. These kind if issues can happen with every new model in every brand,

What I want to mean is... if you simply decide it is how the bike is designed you f*ck yourself for all your bike life. But if you claim the dealer them problem can be solved and you get a fine working bike.

FWIW - I've seen videos about some Mahindra BSA 650s having problems with the engine stalling/cutting out and I believe it was an issue with the wiring harness. Additionally, I was watching an Itchy Boots episode, in Iran I believe, where she was riding along with a mechanic who was on a new 350 RE that cut out several times. His comment was something like "this is not uncommon for Indian made bikes", as he fiddled with the wiring harness. So, I can only assume that some Triumph 400s may be prone to this issue too.
