2001 Sprint ST randomly leaking oil

Hello Everyone. I just recently bought a 2001 Sprint ST about 3 weeks ago that’s been pretty good to me. I did an oil change about 3 days ago and as I was at a gas station I saw that it was leaking a good bit of oil that it wasn’t doing prior to the oil change.

Here’s a picture of the side it’s leaking from and I honestly can’t tell where it’s leaking from. I will say it looks to be from up top somewhere but it’s weird that it’s just now leaking oil.

Are you sure it's not leaking either from the oil filter or drain plug? Did you use a torque wrench on the drain bolt? I ask because the only time I did use a torque wrench vs using my own brain to decide on tightness, the bolt leaked and I had to snug up a bit more. Maybe run the bike without fairings and wait for a leak. Are there some oil drops or smudges on the water pump housing?

I'd think it'd be either from the drain bolt or filter. In addition to what's been suggested...
Did you use a new crush washer on the drain bolt?
Are you sure the old filter's sealing gasket was removed with the old filter (sometimes they can detach and stick)?
Did you wet the new filter's sealing gasket with oil before installing the filter?
Good luck!

While I am not familiar with the St Sprint, this is something that my Thunderbird does now and then. If I get on the throttle too much, in the 6K to 7K range, the engine will spit oil up into the air box. Because the airbox does not have a perfect, hermetic, seal on the bottom edges it seeps out of there drips onto the alternator and then to the ground.

I have been told about different causes of this ranging from overfilled oil, to when someone else drained the oil they did not remove the fill cap first. Supposedly this causes the vacuum inside the engine case to suck one of the seals in causing it to leak at higher RPMs. Doesn't entirely make sense but that's what I've been told.

I wish you the best of luck, and keep riding.

That bolt's from the fairing, I'd recognize those anywhere.

Hopefully, the OP will report back and we won't have an Unsolved Mystery but think Darien figured it out.
I should mention you have to check the oil level with the bike upright, not on the side stand.
I usually put in 3 quarts (more or less), ride it for 15 miles, let it sit for around 5 minutes and then top up the oil.
