Let's get the current knowledge of what oil filters work on the Twins compiled, and we'll replace the current sticky which is silly long. I'll do my best to keep this top post updated and keep this thread fairly clean.

Filters reported to work:

HIFLO-FILTRO HF204

NAPA 1358 and Wix 51358 (same thing, about 1/4" longer than OEM)

Ryco Z436 (Australian brand?)

Mobil motorcycle-specific M1MC-134 (discontinued)
Purolator motorcycle-specific ML16817

Mobil M1-108 and M1-108A (and longer M1-110) - redesigned around 2020 and is now about 1/2 to 3/8 inches taller than OEM

A/C PF2135
Amsoil SMF-103
Baldwin B1400
Bikemaster 171632
CARQUEST 85358 (same as the NAPA 1358/Wix 51358?)
Fram. PH6017S
Hastings LF113
MAHLE OC 575

Filters to be wary of:

K&N KN-204 and KN-204-1 - There are lots of reports of these leaking at the weld for the nut, and they've been banned at some tracks because of it. See for instance K&N Oil Filter Mishap- Oil Filler Cap, Another k&n 204 horror story w/Scramber, K&N 204-1 leaking oil filter

NAPA 1365 and Wix 51365 - don't fit anymore, see NAPA 1365/1358 oil filter

Purolator PL 14612 and longer 14610 no longer fit after redesign in 2015: Defective Purolator Filter

Bosch 3300 - recent problems with these too: Bosch 3300 Oil Filter No Longer Fits Our Bikes

Ryko Z445 also doesn't tighten up fully.

This thread replaces the one at Oil filters that fit, which got too long and silly by the end, and had to be locked.

The following automotive filters look identical, very likely come from the same manufacturer, currently have a slightly concave base plate, and should fit:

Mobil M1-108
K&N HP-1008 (with 1-inch nut welded on the end)
Royal Purple 10-2876

Cross referencing a Finnish filter manufacturers catalog I found out that the filter for Triumphs is a very common one. I usually shop for a filter for Nissan Qashqai 2.0 gasoline -car. It fits perfectly. The oil/filter change interval for the said Nissan is 30000km for a 2.0 liter car engine, so it is more than adequate for a oil change in my America. The price is a lot lower than for a "proper" motorcycle oil-filter and I can buy one from any parts store.

The Mazda MX-5 MIATA years 1990-2005 uses the same oil filters.

For comparison I've used UK suppliers and prices:

Mazda aftermarket oil filters sell for just ÂŁ2.40 inc tax
Mazda genuine oil filter sells for ÂŁ5.28 inc tax

Triumph genuine filter part nÂş T1210444 costs a whopping ÂŁ11.68 inc tax

A rip-off considering that the same part number is also used on nearly all Triumphs. The Factory must buy them by the boatload...they're made by Toyo Roki Manufacturing Ltd., the major Japanese manufacturer of vehicle filters. The Triumph ones are made by FILTECH which is an American subsidiary of that same company.

A popular UK source of Mazda parts showing these filters:

The genuine Mazda: http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/filter-genuine-mazda-mk1-25-p-231.html

The aftermarket one: http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/filter-aftermarket-mk1-25-p-527.html

A motomaster MPH6607 will fit an mx-5 so presumably many motorcycles that fit a hiflo hf303 or hf204. These would be readily available in Canada at Canadian tire.

Note this is a replacement for a fram ph6607, which is about 10mm longer than the fram ph6017a. So if I had the option i would buy the ph6017a should it be in stock at Canadian tire. At twice the price of the motomaster part.

I buy hf204 well in advance of an oil change so i always have one around, so the unless i need to change oil on a trip i won’t be shopping at Canadian Tire.

My wife and son's Subaru Liberty/Legacy is the same filter also. I buy them when they are on special for the 2 bikes and 2 Libertys.

Just for the record:
One person mentioned the following filter but stated they don't use it.
I DO actually use the HIFLO-FILTRO HF204, great reviews and seems quality unit IMO.....has o-ring seal too. At one time I knew what company actually makes the filter, but I can't remember right now. I do remember that it was a major manufacturer though.
Can be purchased on ebay, amazon and other online retailers.

I'm using HiFlo Filtro's HF204RC filter on my '09 Bonnie - a little cheaper in Australia than the Triumph filter and readily available. It comes with the 17mm nut for easy removal, and in my opinion performs brilliantly under our conditions. (I use Motul synthetic oil, and the combination seems good).

in Australia the above listed filters are as rare as rocking horse #$, and as Ryco branded filters are the common after market filter found locally at all auto shops, the one to use for modern Bonnevilles are:-

Ryco... Z436

I've been using this filter for the past 80,000 kilometers with no issues

bit late getting back on this one

havent tried myself, but Ryco does now market moto specific oil filters and RMZ119 are listed in the Ryco catalogue for the Hinkley Bonneville family, so no reason why they should not be included in the list

dimensionally they are very similar to the Z436 and maybe the same painted black but probably cost more and only available from motorbike shops

+1. I have been doing a lot of research and it seems this is best bang for the buck. I plan on ordering few and will post pics when the opportunity arises. They are only $4.97 each at Rock Auto

I would call this a world wide filter. On E-bay from a dealer in China. A filter that fits our Triumphs and some Honda models. It is marked Honda Genuine Parts. Filtech Inc, assembled in USA, HF-204. Opening bid of .99 with shipping of $4.99. You may buy it now for $8.79 including shipping. Assembled here, shipped to China, shipped back here.
Unbelieveable!

So will the Hiflofiltro HF204 on Amazon will fit my 2013 Bonne SE? I'd hate to get halfway in and DOH! If an OEM is the only way to be certain then oh well...
Amazon says no filters fit my bike so I figured it can't hurt to ask. I wish I could use the one with the welded nut, but nope, the guard gets in the way.

I don't have a dealer within 3 hours so I have to order online. Thanks in advance!

Mtlgrlie, the Mobil M1-108 should be widely available in auto parts stores and should work fine. It's on the smallish side for this model of oil filter so there should be no interference.

#23 ·
I thought Triumph didn't market any Bonnevilles as an "SE" in 2013? I forget. No, wait, this: http://www.triumphrat.net/twins-talk/223394-2013-bonnie-se.html. I think that might be why the SE is only listed through 2012.

Anyways, there's just one filter for all the 865 Bonnies. For instance, the Triumph website offers just one filter for all the Bonnevilles. It'll fit.

Interesting BB, crazy to think my matte black and cranberry with red frame isn't a special edition! My dealer certainly called it a special edition, but I guess what else WOULD you call it?
But all that aside, it's good to know all shorter filters will fit! Thank you for digging that link out too....
Oh, I just looked at my invoice. The dealer called it an SE2!? Ha. I feel special now.

Mobil M1-108 (and longer M1-110)
Mobil motorcycle-specific M1MC-134
Just changed oil and filter today. I noted that Mobil 1 does not list the M1-108 as a motorcycle filter.

Even though we say it "fits" why would we list a filter that the manufacturer themselves does not say fits?

After I changed the oil. I noticed the bike snapped back to idle very quickly after I throttle it, more than normal. Don't think it was my imagination. I started to wonder if there was some issue with oil pressure. (Yes, my oil is is correct level). I began to imagine some restrictions in the oil system because of the filter, but that doesn't make sense to me.

Thinking of going back and just getting one of the filter specifically listed for our bikes by the manufacturer.

Lot's of those filters listed are off-application, which bit some of the Purolator and NAPA users recently when they changed the design so they didn't fit the Triumphs anymore. The list is of filters that are easier to get, cheaper and/or considered "better" by some.

NAPA lists the Bonneville as an application for their 1358, but that filter is longer than OEM (or M1-108) and hangs below the guardrail some. So even using only manufacturer-recommended filters has its issues.

If it worries you, just buy OEM filters next time you're at the dealer. They are a few dollars cheaper than the 108 anyways.

Or just order them from Hermy's for the suggested price of $9.99 and not have to deal with motorcycle or auto stores and instead Ride while they are delivered to the house.
But hey if people find Adventure Searching Out the shelves at Walmart and other places on their off time instead of riding that's there thing.
I do enjoy all the Work they go through for something most of them only do Maybe 1 time a year.
