E-Z Pass - Where to mount?

I have a Thruxton R1200. No fairing. Right now I keep my EZ Pass in a magnetic tank bag, and i go through the EZ Pass/Cash lanes because the tag never reads. I know that there are only so many times you're allowed to go through with only reading plates before you get fined. I'm curious what creative solutions y'all have come up with? Seems like EZ Pass/Cash lanes are the only solution?

Just use velcro on the pass, mounting it somewhere inconspicuous. Here in N Cal, specifically the Bay area, we also ( very conveniently on line) input year, make , model and license plate for each vehicle, including mc’s to our fastrak account. I have a few transponders in my cars but not really needed. As you pass thru the now unmanned toll plaza, the camera picks up you license and matches it against its data base. Soo convenient.

I kept mine in my tank bag and always went through the EZ Pass lanes. Sometimes it would read, other times not. Never got fined. There is a bracket that mounts to the bars that can hold the transponder. I knew someone who mounted the transponder on top of the front brake reservoir with Velcro when needed. I've never heard of being fined.

In Illinois, you are required to have the physical iPass transponder on you, even though you may have registered your license plate on the iPass website. They allow up to 4 photo verifications and deduct the tolls from your account. After that, you will receive a penalty notice for each subsequent photo verification performed, which I believe is around $10. per verification.

I am going to start to carry the transponder in my jacket chest pocket. I am not too keen on placing it anywhere on my bike, as I know I will forget it and it will likely be stolen. All of my transponders are linked into a single account, so a stolen transponder has access to funds available in the whole account.

Hopefully, Illinois will change things back to not charging for photo verification when license plate is registered and on file.

I'm not so sure theft is a big concern. Other than troublemakers just out to be aholes, what self respecting thief is going to steal a transponder so they can drive through toll stations and have their vehicle and registration plates photographed? Seems like an express lane to the courtroom to me.

As far as accessing the funding source linked to the account, it's not like the transponder can be used to make large purchases. That said, I do keep my transponders mounted discreetly just to avoid the inconvenience of having one "walk". I just don't worry about financial ruin if one falls into the wrong hands.

I refuse to do EZ Pass for a couple reasons... First, I don't agree to pay to drive on a road that my tax dollars already paid for. Second, I think it is the least safe lane to be in these days... Either it's backed up and not any faster, which means you are wasting your money... or it is moving a lot faster and that speed differential between it and the lane next to it, makes it a death trap... Too many times I have seen impatient auto drivers just jump from one lane to the next, and when the HOV lane is moving at 50mph and the guy going 7mph in the lane next to it decides "fuggit" and just cuts over in front of you going that much slower? BAM.

See it every day, most of the traffic jams on the interstate happen in the EZ Pass lane, which brings traffic to a halt and negates the entire purpose of even having that lane to begin with...

No thanks.

Never had any issues with Fast Lane in Boston or EZPass here in NJ and I live very close to Manhattan and to very insane busy highways. I don't think your tax dollars come close to maintaining those roads. When the GWB was built they said once paid off there would be no tolls. Really, the tolls are now almost $15 to go into Manhattan from NJ. Maintenance is very expensive not to mention replacement costs. But, we all go our own way in life.

Oh, it's 100% the driver's fault... the issue is that you can have two lanes with vastly different speeds, right next to each other... If there was a divider with designated on and off points, that's one thing... But someone going 5-10mph just jumping into a lane going 5x that, is just asking for trouble...

The E-Z Pass should be able to read through a tank bag. I had to return one once because it was called in for a battery replacement. I figured they had deactivated it since they'd already sent a new one. That was wrong!! I mailed it back to them through the USPS system and got dinged for passage over the GW Bridge as the transponder went through the toll gates inside a postal truck. A tank bag should be no problem!!

E-Z Pass is pretty reasonable sometimes and they did remove that charge from my account but the system can read that transponder through all sorts of stuff.
