I'm surprised at the amount of heat coming from my Thruxton R after an hour or so of use. Is this a design fault? It would appear that the bike needs a bigger rad!!:frown2:

This is what the radiator is supposed to do: radiate engine heat and blow it onto your legs. What’s the temperature outside? It’s 90 F here. In the winter, I will appreciate that heat if the fan ever comes on.
It is also hot here the low 80's. I'm not feeling it when i'm moving as most of the heat is dissipating before it reaches me. i can feel it when i'm stationary at the lights, it seems excessive. Even on fully faired bikes, i would feel heat from the engine but not like this and previous naked bikes wouldn't throw out this much.
Decat it with a xpipe and most of that heat goes away, it creates a lot of heat and it sits under the motor, I don't get hot legs at all now with my Meerkat and the bike runs so much cooler.
Is this your first motorcycle? My Thruxton R was one of the best motorcycle when it came to temperature...
Go try a Harley Softail or one of their Touring bikes... I had those and can tell you that those are by far the worse crotch burning hot motorcycles I have ridden...
The ThruxtonR was so comfortable riding in the summer here in Florida... So was my CBR600RR, but the Thruxton got that one beat when it came to comfort...
No, I've been riding for 30 yrs. I commuted to work everyday for 25 yrs. All Jap and Italian bikes from naked to full faired. It appears that a few people have had a similar problem and given me the answer to overcome it.
I too have a 19 Street Twin and have noticed the fan shrouding and location of the regulator/rectifier has been changed on this and other models, affixed to the rear of the radiator. I've ordered a TTO, Trail Tech temp gage to do some investigating. It won't really hurt anything as is but I suspect the fan runs more often on these models
I've installed the TTO temp gauge and gathering data now. Talked to a Speed Twin owner today and I noticed they must have mounted the R/R under the tank! More investigation needed. So 3 different locations of R/R on various WC Twins and 3 different levels of radiator to air surface exposure. Hmm.
I think the Speed Twin RR is mounted down low under bike toward rear -- by ABS pump and swingarm under bike -I got a finned square unit there
