I started what will be a four day 1500 mile trip. Yesterday I rode 310 miles from home to Vegas. I recently installed progressive springs in the forks (took all of 30 minutes). I was considering a set of YSS shocks for the rear but decided to do one step at a time. I increased the preload on the shocks to one notch below the max. Now the ride is what I wanted. The springs smoothed out the harshness that the stock springs had. Looks like I’m saving $600 for new shocks for now. The YSS will be the replacements when I wear the stock ones out in a year or so. Incidentally, I weight around 250 with gear to give a gauge on preload settings.

The 300 miles were done in the morning without issues or discomfort. I have the bike set up with a Walmart ATV pad covered with an IKEA sheepskin to increase seat height (I’m 6’4”) and to provide firm fusion and airflow. I’ve always used sheepskins in my bikes and have many many 500+ comfortable mile days logged on other bikes I’ve owned. Heading into the Sierras tomorrow and will log 450 miles by day’s end. I feel as though I have the bike well fitted to me finally and it’ll be an easy day. Stay tuned.

I finished 470 miles today and speeds varied from 85 through the desert to 30 on Sonoroa Pass. My overall MPG is between 46-47. I get better but have to slow down. I weight 250 with gear. The work I did on my seat and the fly screen are the difference makers though.

470 miles today through the high desert and over the high Sierras. I feel great! No hip or leg issues and my neck is basically fine. The seat definitely has been sorted out for me. This will be as long as I’d like to ride in a day though.

I only did 320 miles today but the afternoon on the 1 was really slow with traffic. Regardless a beautiful day and scenery.

Thanks for the pictures, your trip looks like a great time.
I will be trailering my 120 from Vermont to Denver in late June to ride with my sister and her husband around the Rockies. They only have about 4 days to ride, but I will probably extend it solo after they have to get back to obligations. While I really do not look forward to the drive across the continent, I really want to use this bike, which is my 2nd Bonneville, and the best bike I've ever ridden. May just keep going, and going, and going......

My third and final day ended up being the longest, 502 miles for a full trip total of 1620 over four days.

Day 4 started nice and cool in the 50's and ended at home at 113 degrees. The route chosen was amazing in the morning! CA58 from San Luis Obisbo to Bakersfield. The road is in great shape and starts out with lots of curves in the woods and then rolls out into prairie 40 miles later. Included in the prairie section were two rattle snakes on the road in different locations. It reminded me of home in Montana where we had rattlers all around, including against our house at times.

For the afternoon I added additional mile to my route by going to Temecula then the 79 up to Julian and then down to home instead of the route of Indio to home. The weather in the desert has turned hot, 113, and I did not feel like 140 miles of heat. A 50 mile longer route with only 30 miles of extreme heat seems more suited to my liking. Glad I did.

Anyway, great trip that proved that my T120 is well set up for me for long days. My fuel economy averaged 47.5 MPG and there were no issues to speak of.

I've ridden in all 48 lower states in the US. Not trying to tell you what to do, but the run from Colorado east is not much fun most routes. But since you are from Vermont, it would be a good run to head northeast out of CO towards the upper peninsula of Michigan and cross into Canada. That way you get to avoid all of the US cities in the midwest.

Have fun and enjoy!
