Any clues as to why they canned the street cup?

I never heard a peep about why they discontinued it. And IMO at least it was one of the most beautiful bikes triumph has ever produced. Add to that a price not much more than the street twin but with some nice appointments and improvements like dual clocks. Maybe it didn't see real well but even then you;d thing they would give it a chance. It was only out a year for CS ! So speculation aside, anyone heard anything about triumph's reason?

My dealer says the Street Cups don't sell so he doesn't stock them.

They don’t sell.

They are, in my opinion, the best looking bikes of the Modern Classics. I think the problem was with the underpowered engine.

Salesman called them boat anchors. Sold some when first came out and then dried up. I never rode one, but I think I would rather have the air cooled 900 Thruxton. I had a '05. Too many cafe racers. I can't understand why Triumph won't provide cast wheels as an option for the Thruxton R.

A Street Cup loan bike ended up with me buying a Thruxton R for precisely that reason; a lovely machine in so many respects, it got breathless far too soon and badly needed a sixth gear. Apart from my desire to fit T120 sprockets for a more relaxed gait at speed, the R has so far ticked every box for me.

Trivia observation; I purchased my Thruxton secondhand from a different Triumph dealer in a different part of the country to my Cup loan bike. A few weeks later, I realised that they had consecutive registrations! AA 17 XXY, where AA is the registration region, 17 the year, and XXY the unique identifier where Y is the one letter difference.

I agree on the looks, it's easily the best looking of all the 900/1200 twins. But the engine is the same as the street twin which is thier biggest seller, so it makes little sense to me.

I think the difference is you expect a bike that looks like that to go fast, but it doesnít.

No sell, no make.

Years ago I helped out at my friendís dealership. We were working the IMS, and Triumph was there. They had just dropped the Thunderbird Sport. I asked why and the Triumph guy said they donít sell. I always thought the TBS was a great bike, but I guess not enough folks agreed.

I suspect, a bit like the R9t Racer, people think they look awesome but the ergonomics don't suit the more mature rider
