OEM Luggage Rail Installation - Street Scrambler

Ordered the OEM luggage rail to install on the left side of my new Street Scrambler.

I was getting started in the installation process, and wanted to ask here if I need to have the bike up on a stand/lift before I "Remove the left hand side rear suspension unit top fixing screw and washer" as directed by the instructions?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I am asking, because I was worried if I remove the fastener will the rear suspension unit fall off? Will I be able to re-attach it easily?

yes it would be fine.. don't worry about a lift, even if the suspension slides off the spigot the weight of the bike will be supported by the other side's strut and you would be able to manoeuvre the strut back onto the spigot.
if you want to ensure it doesn't slide off why not tie some string round both struts and tie them up pulling against each other.. therefore preventing them from spreading apart and sliding off.
