T100/SC/ST Headlight In T120 & Thruxton

I have a 2016 US spec T120. I've found that the stock non-DRL headlight is fine on low beam, but high beam is weak and uneven. It inspires little confidence for night riding since it's easy to "outride" the beam. My guess is that the parking lamp lenses reduce the size of the main reflector and otherwise interfere with the beam pattern. US spec water cooled Thruxtons will probably have the same problem.

It doesn't seem to be possible to fit one of the excellent after market Hella units because the T120's headlight bucket and bezel are of a non standard size.

I noticed that the beam pattern is much superior on the Street Twin, and its headlight is completely interchangeable with that of the T120. The part needed is the "headlamp with bulb shield", P/N T2706508. Pre-installed bulbs are included. The assembly is also much lighter and not as deep as the same part on the T120 since it lacks the large metal heat sink. You end up with much more room in the headlight shell.

Switching headlights was a 20 minute job. The only tool needed was a 5mm hex key. You will have to switch the bezel to the new headlight. It's held in place with wire clips that are very easy to remove and reinstall. Just plug in the headlight and parking lamp bulbs, mount the unit to the shell, and you're done.

The part number is the same for the T100, and the SC, and ST.

I have the 2016 Thruxton and the headlight at night is awful. I am going to seriously look into this option.

I have the 2016 Thruxton R and the headlight beam is terrible at night. And even with the Cyclops LED bulb. I am going to look into this option.

Yea, just a simple drop in. If one likes the Motodemic lights, they also now have drop in kits for the WC bikes.

I also like that the T100/SC/ST headlight looks much cleaner and less "busy" than the T120's original.

Thanks for posting. I may give this a try. Are there any downsides to the swap?

That motodemic unit is seriously impressive (and equally expensive).

Not that I've noticed, except maybe for the cost, which is going to be something over $200US if the assembly is purchased from a dealer. (The assembly is complete with all parts including the bulbs. There doesn't seem to be any way to purchase the lens/reflector by itself.)

This question was addressed over on another thread. One poster swooped in and said his ST headlight had melted and to beware of this swap. He gave no details and never came back. No one else has complained of this problem on their T100/SC/ST that I've heard of. FWIW, I always run with my T120's high beam on during daylight hours. The headlight lens and shell get warm to the touch, but never hot.

I don't ride enough at night to warrant it, but wow!

Did this today, since my low beam crapped out
