2016 Street Twin Warranty Issue (Oil Leak) @ 70 miles

My buddy who was riding with me saw it and said hey "you know it's a Triumph, it's leaking oil."

I am posting as a new Street Twin owner regarding a new issue that has been found with the Street Twin during manufacturing according to Triumph. It is leaking oil from the right crank case behind the little round plastic disk because of a manufacturing defect either with the O ring or the casting (I am calling back tomorrow to find out from a mechanic the specifics). The friendly Triumph representative said most (only Street Twins, I think) have the issue, and it's too early for a recall. Mine was found today and leaking oil on to my leg and exhaust. The oil is leaking out of the bottom screw hole in the diagram.

More to come.

Some members have had the same leak on the T120's as well, a thread from a month ago:

That image seems to be from a parts listing or a service manual, where did you get it? I'm not aware Triumph have published either yet.

So, it's leaking oil from that cool, but totally pointless, disc/cover with the two hex-bolts holding it in? I remember reading on here of someone mentioning that theirs was leaking from there with their T120-Black, while it was still on the showroom floor!

To be honest, when I easily changed that cover to one of the Accessories ones, I wondered how it doesn't leak.. As there is a hole the diameter or a Dime... And nothing but a simple metal badge bolted on against it... No rubber gasket or anything.

I guess all I can do is keep a look out for this happening, hope it doesn't, and stay tuned to this thread... Good luck everyone.

My Triumph dealer service department took a shot of it with his camera and sent it to me.

Great, thanks. There has been some enquiries about the availability of a manual somewhere, at least we now know that one exists...

It's leaking from a screw hole that holds that little plastic cover on. I think what is happening is that the screw has penetrated through the case and the pressure is forcing oil out through the threads.

Plastic? but worry not. Triumph have not one, but three versions of an accessory cast aluminium cover, just cross their palm with £30 ($43.50) and they'll give you one. Example of a brushed finish one, part number A9610260:

A9610260
A9610260

I will. Also thanks for the part number for the accessory. I will see if they will give me two for my trouble.
