Swapping out the Beach Bars on my 2018 Speedmaster

I am looking for information on how easy it would be to swap the weird beach bars for some 7" buckhorn pullbacks ( 1" diameter) . I see that others have added 2" risers with a flat bar, with no issue of short control cables. Just wondering if any one has swapped out the beach bars for a 7" pullback with no issues. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

I'm in the same boat as you. I hate the beach bars. I've seen the posts however I've tried the 2" risers and the clutch cable doesn't work. If you get any info please let me know.

Thanks guys !

I've been looking for more info on the possibility of changing the beach bars to pullback, but because this model is so new, there are not too many third party products available for it. Yet. And I am not sure if I could do the the clutch cable swap to a longer one. I think if I take the tank off, there may be a bit of extra cable length to free up but not much. Most sites list Speedmaster 2016 as the latest model. So when looking for compatible third party accessories, it is a bit of a challenge. I am not into the costly postage to send part back or try and get a refund on a part that does not fit. IE . Saddlebags that have mounting that actually fits. Speaking of that, where did you get your saddlebags if I may ask? Any issues installing?

Cheers

Lady Bonnie , what is it that you feel is very specific to the 2018 , as far as bars go ?

Historically other than HD your bars are either 7/8" or 1" dia. the only other concerns should be length needed at the r & l

controls and center width. Most "cruisers" if you will are going to be very very similar in those aspects. Obviously cable ,

hose and wiring lengths will play a factor in swapping bars.

For instance I have a set of Chubby brand 12" mini apes in 1" that I have actually had on my 2008 America that came off

my V-Rod, other than cable and wiring length they fit.

All this if I'm not understanding that something new has happened for say specifically 2018. I wish I had a set of pull

backs I could send you to try.

Hi, thanks for your input!. Yes, I found out that my stock Beach Bars are 1" diameter, and the centre is about 7.5". The current rise is about 2". The strange part of the beach bars is the angle of your wrists will riding. Ok for short trips, but for a longer trip, I think I would rather have the buckhorn pullbacks. I tried some on an old Virago that was so just right. That was the perfect comfort fit.

I am thinking that I may have to extend the cables as others have said. Do you change your own cables? Is it a big job?

Thanks

The clutch cable isn't a big deal to change. The wiring to the bar controls can be a pain , if needing to be lengthened , in

my opinion the biggest pain is the front brake hose , due to the fact they can sometimes be a HUGE pain to bleed , and not

get brake fluid on any paint !

They are Viking bags. Universal fit. No pre-drilled holes so you can mount them however you want as far as location, etc. Here is the link to the ones that I have. https://www.vikingbags.com/lamellar-...11123-prd1.htm I can send photos of exactly how they are installed on my bike if you'd like.

Sure, send me some installation photos if you have any. I need to make a decision on whether to go for throw over with the silly Triumph Chrome side rack$ or go for the bags such as yours that come with a universal kit to install. Maybe your photos will make my mind up, on just how easy it is to do this. I spent so much on the bike, and gear, and now I am looking for the best possible answer to the saddlebag problem. (bike is so new that Viking does list Speedmaster but only up to 2017) So need to be careful on this selection.

Thanks
