Unhappy Any luck with trading in your Trophy?

Hey all- I have recently found myself in an interesting position where I can no longer ride the Trophy. That being said I have been eying other lower stature bikes Triumph makes but here's the interesting part. I have spoke with several dealers in my area and they either refuse to take the bike on trade or give a ridiculous offers (2014 with all accessories except heated seats @11K miles). This includes Triumph dealerships as well- best offer on the bike was $5K from 2 dealerships.

I love the bike, just cannot keep it. Has anyone had a different experience? I feel a bit abused by Triumph after buying their marquee bike. Not sure I want to stay with them at this point.

I'm sorry to say, but that's probably the best you'll get on a trade. They need to make money on the sell too, and we're getting into the season where pricing usually takes a dip.
Why not sell it yourself? That's the only way you'll get a reasonable price
Good luck.

I will do just that, this pricing and declining to trade happened throughout the spring & summer at multiple dealers (including Triumph). I would rather give it away at that price to someone that wants it than let it sit.

I experienced the exact same thing with my 2013 Trophy when I sold it in 2015. One dealer said that the wouldn't even make an offer because they didn't want to insult me. They had a very hard time selling new ones at ridiculously discounted prices, so they stay as far away as they can from the Trophy. Another problem is that the demand for Sport touring bikes has been overcome by the demand for adventure touring bikes.

I can't speak of trading off a Trophy as I am only a recent owner of one but over the years I have bought and sold a few bikes. My experience has pretty much always been that most dealers don't make a good offer on a used bike as a trade in. I think that has a few reasons. The factories make the purchase of new bikes so easy that a dealer doesn't want to take used bikes in on trade. I'm not sure if this is due to the amount they would have to offer to get us to trade ours in or other factors. We all think our bikes are worth more than the dealers offer us. Also the big name dealers that I am experienced with really don't like to sell other brands particularly if they are not from one of the big name Japanese brands or in the case of H-D an H-D product. With the ease of marketing through the internet it seems to me the best way is to do an outright sale and just have cash in hand when buying a new bike. What you mentioned about the advent of the adventure touring bikes is also a factor but taken a step further, most of the big name brands are marketing cheaper and easier bikes without frills so for those of us with a purpose built bike, we are one step behind no matter what it is. Right now it seems to be ADV and regular bikes.

The market for big sport touring bikes is very soft currently, especially if it doesn't have a spinnyprop roundrel on it.

I'm happier than a tornado in a trailer park.

I just bought my very well equipped & maintained '13 SE from someone in that same position.
So, I guess that I'm lucky to be me. Got a great bike at a very good price!(much less than a dealer would have listed it for, but still above what he was offered on trade in).
So, I'm sure that I'll be "privately" selling it, way in the future....
