Unhappy RPM in Dallas is CLOSING

I just got an email from the folks at RPM. They are closing the doors after 21 years.

If anyone in the Dallas area needs Triumph parts, gear, or perhaps a new or used ride, get there between today and the 21st of November 2018, as all of their remaining inventory is on sale.


If anyone knows of another Triumph dealer/service center in the Dallas/Fort Worth area (besides Eurosport, I've ... history... with Tony's mechanics), please let me know.

Current: 2014 Triumph Thunderbird Storm "Rockabilly"
Past: '79 Yamaha XS750 "Cerberus" | '87 Yamaha FZ700 "Pandora" | '92 BMW K75/RT "Sif" | '08 Triumph Sprint 1050 ST "Sapphire Strumpet"

Thinking Triumph Marketing has their heads up their butts. The dealer I patronize is first class and has an excellent reputation. Triumph is pushing him to get newer and better buildings (among many internal upgrades) which, his current buildings are admittedly ‘dumps’. He has basically ignored them to date.

I hope I am wrong but expect your dealer will soon lose their Triumph franchise, it is has been happening for the last couple years in the U.S.

Triumph wants the glitz and glamour showrooms but they fail to realize although their bikes are great most dealers cannot survive selling Triumphs only. The glitzy showrooms probably impress corporate Triumph egos more they do real customers.

Real customers appreciate fair, competent dealers that care about their customers more than how big the Triumph sign is or how shiney the floors are.

Yes there are dealers that have it all but the dealers and their corporate partners spent more than two plus decades to build and earn those rewards.

Triumph is like a lot of people starting off work today, they come to work on time do the minimum required but expect to be the boss within a year.... ENTITLED.

Today's real customers are younger and might want to see those shiny floors and large dedicated showrooms. i don't think Triumph NA or UK want to go back to the old days. I'm 65 so I can appreciate the small shops that built race bikes and had competent mechanics without the pretense. And, those in sales that didn't need to answer your question by first asking the mechanic or parts person. And, parts counter help that didn't need to look up the part on a computer. Knew just where the part was located among thousands in inventory. Oh yeah, they had inventory. Ducati also used to be sold in well worn and greasy shops. With racing leathers hanging on the wall. Not in boutiques.

Felony you might be right about younger buyers. I guess my main point is given a choice between a dealer the customer values whose signage and floor space may not be up to the new Triumph standards or losing a dealer completely for a couple of years the choice is easy for me. Like you I am 65 and understand shops aren't going back but I do want and need dealers that give great customer service.

I've only bought two new bikes and have used the dealers for the initial service. After that, they will never see me. I'm certainly not taking my '98 Daytona to any dealer. If not for the Triumph decals, they probably wouldn't know what the bike is. I know many use dealers for service and repairs, but not in my budget or mind set.

Anyone know why RPM Cycle is closing? I've bought two bikes from them in past and always thought they were a great dealership. I was shocked to get the email saying they were closing.

Sad to read we're losing another Triumph dealer. The shrinking number of dealers has me concerned and is my main hesitation on purchasing another Triumph. Seems Triumph marketing doesn't have a clue on what motivates many of us to buy a motorcycle. Triumph makes great machines. But, I would rather give my business to a motorcycle shop that has competent well-paid staff and a good supply of spares rather than some fluffy boutique with corporate-branded decoration. And, dealer numbers matter. My Triumph dealer is already 120 miles from home. If that dealer loses their franchise, the next closest dealer is about five hours away - over a mountain range and through a big city. At that point, I'll buy some other brand that has local dealers. Regarding Triumph's demands on its dealers; don't understand the mentality of a corporate entity pretending to know local circumstances better than their franchised dealers.

It's definitely been an issue in Florida, we've lost several good dealers recently. All of the ones I spoke to, said corporate is just unreasonable to deal with. I live in a metropolitan area (Orlando), and don't have one close. If I wasn't capable of doing routine maintenance myself, I probably would have bought a different brand.

My preferred dealer in question (120 miles away) is still open. Was in there a couple of months back and didn't think to ask him where he was standing with Triumph America. He and some of his staff had just returned from California where Triumph had put on some kind of dealer 'event' and he indicated everything was going well at the moment, other than slow sales. My Sprint ST will be going back there shortly for its first ever major service - bike went into service over 10 years ago and still has less than 10k miles. Sadly, I haven't ridden either bike (Sprint ST and Trophy SE) in months (since last November). Putting the battery charger on the Sprint and may ride it tomorrow after checking it out.
