National Powersports - Thoughts?

A colleague of mine said he has a few friends that have ordered bikes from National Powersports and have had good experiences and received great deals. I talked to them today and they have the T120 I want in stock and really they're just charging MSRP and shipping. My local dealer wants almost $1-$1.5k more than that when you add all their fees into the mix. Anyone have any experience with National Powersports and having a bike delivered? The whole process sounds scary to me, but heck $1,000 dollars in my pocket can go a long way.

From my experience with them a few years ago, you can certainly trust them to be honest and friendly. They may have a couple hundred bikes on the sales floor, and sell on eBay, but they do business the small town way, personal, honest, and don't rush you.

I went up there from NJ with my own trailer. I was by myself. I bought a large used BMW. They not only allowed me to take all the time I wanted to checkout the bike, they then spent extra time with me and made sure I understood the ins and outs of the bike. They loaded it on my trailer for me, and they commented that they didn't like my tie down straps. (The straps were not old and I'm sure would be fine) They said no, and they proceeded to tie it down with their own heavy duty straps, and didn't charge me a dime for them, nor did they want me to leave my straps there as a trade.

They gave me some advice as I left that has held true for me for all the times I've trailered a bike, which has been at least a dozen times since then.
After you set off, stop in 10-15 minutes to check the status of the tie downs. If all is good, it'll probably stay good for the rest of your trip. If something was not right and would loosen, it'll probably loosen somewhat already in those 10-15 minutes and you can fix it then before it becomes a disaster.

I've looked at some of their bikes and prices seem reasonable. I think the normal shipping price is $499 which includes crating. Every so often, they do a special on shipping that runs about $299, but I'm not sure what time of year that was done.

They quoted me on a 2017 street cup. I must say they were my second best offer, they dipped under msrp, waived all dealer fees and offered free shipping to the midwest, normally $450. If buying new, they are actually Concord Triumph a NH dealership that sells under the NPS name. There is some risk in the transaction however.
1. you dont get to physically see or sit the bike,
2. they use (2) core shippers, one very good but the other had many bad reviews from my research.
3. Although insured you run the risk of damage in transit.

If you are out of state purchaser, you will not have to pay vehicle tax until you land it within your home state, and most states require you to register and pay tax within 30 days.

I will confirm that NPS's offer kicked the snot out of all local Triumph dealers I tried to negotiate with. They could not match them.

Did you end up going with them? After reading your post, I talked to my local dealer and he came close in price. I figure paying a little more is worth the peace of mind....

^I did not. Nothing on them, just got even a better deal from another dealer in Wisconsin,,,,and I still walked because I found a practically new 2013 Thruxton and bought that as it was half less than new Street Cup.

I recently purchased my 2016 Thunderbird LT from NPS/Concord Triumph based out of New Hampshire. Overall, the transaction went very smoothly with a few minor hiccups. I had similar concerns about purchasing the bike sight-unseen but I decided to take the chance since the LT was hard to find locally and definitely not at the price they were offering ($5k below MSRP).

I contacted them around New Years and did the financing dance (rates at their credit union vs mine) for a couple of weeks while Fedex'ing docs back and forth. The final paperwork was processed on Jan 17th (per email) and the bike arrived Superbowl Sunday, Feb 4th. They used HaulBikes for transport. HB was great and their trucks are huge! 80ft long, double deckers.

Hiccups:
* I immediately noticed that the bike didn't have the accessories that I ordered. I contacted NPS and they apologized, refunded me the labor cost of the install and sent me the accessories which I installed myself. No big deal.
* The right mirror was swinging loosely. Upon inspection, it was missing a bolt. Who knows when that could have fell out. Bought a new one from the local dealer. No big deal.
* The owner's manual was missing from under the pillion seat. I called and it took a few weeks but eventually, they sent out the "New owner packet" which included the owners manual, the maintenance log and the immobilzer key.

Curiosity: In the paperwork, I noticed that the LT was actually titled to Triumph of Buffalo but had to be picked up from Atlanta and taken to NH before heading my way. I think this is what lead to the bike being shipped out before it had been fully processed.

Awesomeness:
* Everyone I dealt with was very friendly & helpful despite being in a blizzard most times I called.
* They were able to roll the CA sales tax into the financing. You have to ask for that one.
* Took the bike in for the 500mi inspection and no problems.
* Did I mention $5k below MSRP? :-D

I can probably explain the title curiosity. When I was speaking with the owner he explained that he buys out the entire inventory both new and used of dealerships around the country that go out of business.

I bought my 2017 Scrambler from them. I found them to be very honest and friendly. On top of being over $2k under list price, there were absolutely no additional fees. None. I gave them a $250 deposit over the phone on my credit card and they held the bike for over 3 weeks until I got there to pick it up. I flew into Manchester and the salesperson picked me up and drove me to the shop in Pembroke. I was introduced to the entire staff, including the owner, and found them all to be very friendly and helpful. I took the bike out for a 600 mile ride and came back to have them do the free 500 mile first service. Then I took a week riding the long way back to Tennessee. They would have shipped it for $500 but what fun is that?

There were a couple of small issues. I had asked for three accessories to be installed before I arrived. The power outlet was installed as I had asked, but not the center stand nor the tank bag. Both of these were unavailable. I had brought along an old generic tank bag which I used as a tail bag for the ride home. It proved to be adequate. The other issue was the owner's manual, etc. were not with the bike. They gave me the ones from another bike and ordered another set for themselves so I was able to leave with them. I had to ask for them though, so be sure to check on that if buying from them. As mentioned above, they buy out inventories from other dealers and sometimes the manuals and extra keys get separated.

They had right at 440 bikes on display when I was there. They took in 40 used bikes that day, 33 on one trailer from down south somewhere. They are a high volume dealer, and discount heavily to keep them moving through. I would not hesitate to buy from them again.

If you have a local dealer, use them. If not, use the closest one to you because you're going to want/need service and parts someday. Besides, we should all support local.
