Operating Temperature '04 955i

Whenever I get stuck in heavy stop and go traffic, I notice the engine temperature creeping up quite quickly. Regardless of the outside temp, the guage moves from just above the line near the C, to at least the halfway point. Thankfully it never goes beyond that. As I wear earplugs, I am not sure if the fan has kicked in or not, though I know it does when I shut the bike off when the temp is high.

For reference this happens whether the outside temp is in the 90's, 70's and most recently stopped on a mountain pass where the temp was in the low to mid 40's. (All temps in F, as that is all they know in America )

Is this normal?

That sounds about right to me. I have an 06 model which does the same as yours when in traffic, goes up around half way then stops when the fan kicks in. It'd keep going up if the fan didn't work.

You can adjust the temp at which the fan comes on using TuneECU, but I haven't bothered as when I'm out on open roads it rarely gets hot & aside from commuting occasionally, I don't do a lot of slow town riding.

Thank you. Last night I was in traffic, forgot to put my earplugs in earlier, and noticed the fan had kicked in when the temp increased.

Good to know all systems normal.
