Talking Tiger 1050 vs Speed Triple motor

Hello, since both the Tiger & the Speed Triple have the same 1050 motor, what are the difference between them (power wise) and is there a way to get the 130 bhp that the Speed Triple is producing for the Tiger?
I have been informed that there is no mechanical difference between them, and that the main difference is the power of the current the speed triple's ECU is producing. Theoretically, with more current the Tiger should produce the same power, or not?
If that is the case, what needs to be upgraded (on the Tiger)? One should change the Tiger's wiring and ECU? What about the instruments?

as "creativefilmcars" told me, an upgrade to the Speed Triple's Arrow Full racing exhaust sould be more than welcome...

Anyway, thank you for your time...

ps. don't ask me "why didn't I buy the Speed Triple in the first place". After years of GSX-Rs & R1s I got tired of their riding positions & the incapability to do a decent trip... but some more power for the Tiger is welcome..

The ECU for the Speed Triple and the Sprint ST are different from the Tiger; however, "current" as in electrical current is not an issue. The difference in this area is mapping for the EFI system.

In order to get somewhere near the HP of the Speed Triple, one needs to install a more open exhaust silencer, remove the airbox restriction (called a snorkel by some), replace the filter with a K&N, and get the mapping of the ECU set up for maximum HP. This last part may require one take it to a tuner that uses a dyno and the purchase of a TuneBoy key to access the ECU.

Even with all this, your gearing will probably be different from the Speed Triple unless you change sprockets to be the same tooth count as the S3.

Good luck,

Larry

tiger vs. speed triple

Angelo B

I asked the same question back in 08' when is purchased my Tiger!
The Triumph reps. were in town " Daytona Bike Week' and i asked one of them that was answering tech questions the same thing. His reply was " Arrow pipe, K and N filter , Opened up airbox " Less Snorkel" And a downloaded tune setup that Triumph offered for the mods. I did all of what he said with the exception of the pipe. I went with a Quill EVO 2 in Carbon Fiber. The Mech. at the dealer ship, Daytona Triumph did the down load for "FREE". Yea! I couldnt beleive it either! The teck said that Triumph doesnt charge for the remap and he "had " to do it to keep me on warrenty! He had a little hand held computer that figured out the new power the motor should be putting out. Ready? 142hp!!! 103torque!!!. I know i am going to get alot of flak and none beleavers. Fine. My butt tells me it is a "NEW" bike!!!!! Third gear power wheeies! I have three friends i ride with all the time. Ducati Monster, 09 Tiger, 08 Gold Wing. I am 6ft 4 and 265lb. I can walk away from them. All day long. Everyday!! I told you my size because it is inportant. My friends are all lighter and shorter. The Big Guy has the Power Monster!!!
Anyway, Thats how i got big power out of my Tiger. hope it helps.
